4. Safety Information
- Ensure your computer is powered off and unplugged from the wall outlet before installation or maintenance.
- Handle the CPU cooler and other components with care to avoid damage.
- Keep small parts away from children.
- Refer to your motherboard manual for specific CPU and cooler installation guidelines.
5. Setup and Installation
The ZALMAN CNPS80G Rev.3 utilizes a clip-type installation method for both Intel and AMD platforms. Follow these general steps for installation:
5.1. Prepare the CPU and Motherboard
- Ensure your CPU is correctly seated in its socket on the motherboard.
- Clean the surface of the CPU's Integrated Heat Spreader (IHS) with isopropyl alcohol to remove any dust or residue.
- Apply a small amount of the included thermal grease (ZM-STG2M) to the center of the CPU's IHS. Use a spreader or a thin, non-conductive object to spread it evenly into a thin layer across the entire surface.

5.2. Attach Mounting Brackets (Intel Sockets)
For Intel LGA1700/1200/115x sockets, attach the provided Intel base unit and push-pin set to the cooler base. The base unit is designed to align with the cooler's pre-drilled holes. Secure it with the small screws provided.

5.3. Install the Cooler
- Carefully remove the protective film from the cooler's base.
- Align the cooler's mounting pins with the holes around the CPU socket on the motherboard.
- For Intel sockets, gently push down on each of the four push-pins until they click into place, securing the cooler to the motherboard. Ensure even pressure is applied.
- For AMD sockets (AM5/AM4/AM3+/AM3), the cooler uses the existing motherboard backplate and retention clips. Hook one side of the cooler's clip onto the motherboard's retention bracket, then apply firm, even pressure to the opposite side until it clips securely into place.
- Connect the cooler's 4-pin fan cable to the CPU_FAN header on your motherboard. Refer to your motherboard manual for the exact location of this header.

6. Operation
The ZALMAN CNPS80G Rev.3 features an 85mm PWM fan. PWM (Pulse Width Modulation) allows your motherboard to dynamically control the fan speed based on CPU temperature. This ensures optimal cooling performance when needed and quieter operation during lighter loads.
The top-flow design directs airflow downwards, not only cooling the CPU but also providing some airflow to surrounding motherboard components like the VRMs and RAM, contributing to overall system stability.

7. Maintenance
Regular maintenance helps ensure optimal performance and longevity of your CPU cooler:
- Dust Cleaning: Periodically clean the heatsink fins and fan blades to prevent dust buildup, which can impede airflow and reduce cooling efficiency. Use compressed air or a soft brush.
- Thermal Paste: If you remove the cooler for any reason, it is recommended to clean off the old thermal paste from both the CPU and the cooler base and apply a fresh layer before reinstallation.
8. Troubleshooting
If you encounter issues with your ZALMAN CNPS80G Rev.3 CPU Cooler, consider the following:
- Fan Not Spinning:
- Check if the 4-pin fan connector is securely plugged into the CPU_FAN header on the motherboard.
- Verify that the fan is not obstructed by cables or other components.
- Access your motherboard's BIOS/UEFI settings to ensure the CPU fan control is enabled and configured correctly.
- High CPU Temperatures:
- Ensure the cooler is securely mounted to the CPU, with even pressure applied.
- Confirm that thermal paste was applied correctly and evenly.
- Check for excessive dust buildup on the heatsink fins and fan blades, and clean if necessary.
- Verify proper airflow within your PC case.
- Excessive Noise:
- Check for any loose cables or objects that might be touching the fan blades.
- Ensure the fan is securely attached to the heatsink.
- Adjust fan speed settings in your motherboard's BIOS/UEFI or through software if temperatures allow for lower RPMs.
