Setup

Setting Time and Date

  1. Pull the crown (middle knob on the side of the watch) out to position 2.
  2. Rotate the crown clockwise or counter-clockwise to set the desired time. Ensure the AM/PM is correctly set if your watch has a 24-hour indicator.
  3. Push the crown back to position 1 to engage the date quick-set function. Rotate the crown to adjust the date.
  4. Push the crown fully back to position 0 to start the watch and secure the settings.

Adjusting the Strap / Quick-Release Spring Bars

Your Timex Marlin watch features a natural leather strap with quick-release spring bars, allowing for easy strap changes without tools.

  • To remove the strap: Locate the small lever on the underside of the strap where it connects to the watch case. Slide the lever inwards to compress the spring bar and gently pull the strap away from the watch lug.
  • To attach a new strap: Insert one end of the spring bar into the lug hole. Slide the quick-release lever inwards, align the other end of the spring bar with the opposite lug hole, and release the lever. Gently tug on the strap to ensure it is securely fastened.

Operating the Chronograph and Tachymeter

Your watch is equipped with a chronograph movement and a tachymeter scale for measuring elapsed time and speed.

Chronograph Functions

  • Start/Stop: Press the top pusher (button above the crown) to start the chronograph. Press it again to stop.
  • Reset: With the chronograph stopped, press the bottom pusher (button below the crown) to reset all chronograph hands to zero.

Using the Tachymeter

The tachymeter scale on the outer rim of the dial allows you to measure speed over a known distance (e.g., 1 kilometer or 1 mile).

  1. Start the chronograph as an object (e.g., a car) passes a starting point.
  2. Stop the chronograph when the object completes the measured distance (e.g., 1 kilometer).
  3. The chronograph second hand will point to a number on the tachymeter scale, indicating the average speed in units per hour (e.g., km/h or mph).

Maintenance

Water Resistance Guidelines

Your Timex Marlin watch has a water resistance rating of 50 meters (5 ATM). This means it is suitable for short periods of recreational swimming, but not for diving or snorkeling. Avoid operating the crown or pushers when the watch is wet to prevent water intrusion.

Caring for the Acrylic Crystal

The watch features a domed acrylic crystal, which contributes to its retro aesthetic. Acrylic crystals are durable but can be prone to minor scratches. Small scratches can often be buffed out using a specialized acrylic polish (not included).

General Cleaning and Storage

  • Clean your watch regularly with a soft, dry cloth. For the case and metal parts, a slightly damp cloth can be used, followed by immediate drying.
  • Avoid exposing the watch to extreme temperatures, direct sunlight for prolonged periods, or strong magnetic fields.
  • Store your watch in a cool, dry place when not in use, preferably in its original packaging or a watch box to protect it from dust and impacts.
