3. Setup

3.1 Battery Installation

  1. Locate the battery compartment cover on the back of the walkie talkie.
  2. Press down on the latch and slide the cover off.
  3. Insert 3 AA rechargeable batteries into the compartment, ensuring correct polarity (+/-).
  4. Replace the battery compartment cover, sliding it until it clicks into place.

3.2 Charging

The K12 walkie talkies come with rechargeable batteries and a charging adapter. It is recommended to fully charge the batteries before first use.

4. Operating Instructions

4.1 Power On/Off

4.2 Basic Communication (PTT)

  • To transmit: Press and hold the PTT (Push-To-Talk) button located on the side of the walkie talkie. Speak clearly into the microphone.
  • To receive: Release the PTT button. Ensure your walkie talkie is on the same channel and privacy code as the transmitting unit.

4.3 Channel and Privacy Code Selection

The K12 walkie talkies offer 22 channels and 142 privacy codes (CTCSS/DCS) for secure communication.

  1. Press the MENU button once to enter channel selection mode. The channel number will flash.
  2. Use the Up/Down buttons to select your desired channel (1-22).
  3. Press the MENU button again to enter privacy code selection mode. The privacy code will flash.
  4. Use the Up/Down buttons to select your desired privacy code (0-141). Note that CTCSS codes cannot communicate with DCS codes. For example, (Channel 07, CTCSS 11) can only communicate with another unit set to (Channel 07, CTCSS 11), not (Channel 07, DCS 11).
  5. Press the PTT button or wait a few seconds for the setting to be saved and exit the menu.

4.4 iVOX Hands-free Feature

The iVOX function allows for voice-activated transmission without pressing the PTT button, useful when your hands are occupied.

  1. Press the MENU button four times to access the iVOX setting.
  2. Use the Up/Down buttons to turn the iVOX function ON or OFF.
  3. Press the PTT button or wait to save the setting and exit.

4.5 Keypad Lock

The Keypad Lock function prevents accidental changes to settings or powering off the device.

  • To lock the keypad: Press and hold the CALL button until the lock icon appears on the LCD.
