1. Introduction
This manual provides essential information for the proper use, setup, and maintenance of your Zeppelin Men's Automatic Watch 100 Years Méditerranée, Model 9664-5. Please read this manual thoroughly to ensure optimal performance and longevity of your timepiece.
Your watch features an automatic movement, which means it is powered by the motion of your wrist and does not require a battery. It also includes a day and date display.
2. Setup and Initial Operation

Figure 2.1: Front view of the Zeppelin 9664-5 watch, showing the cream dial, gold Arabic numerals, and day/date display at 3 o'clock.
2.1. Initial Winding
Before wearing your automatic watch for the first time, or if it has stopped due to lack of motion, it is recommended to manually wind it. To do this:
- Ensure the crown is in position 1 (fully pushed in, against the case).
- Turn the crown clockwise approximately 20-30 times. This will provide enough power reserve to start the watch.
- Once the watch starts ticking, normal wrist movement will continue to wind the mainspring.
2.2. Setting the Time and Date
To set the time and date on your watch:
- Pull the crown out to position 3 (farthest from the case). The second hand will stop.
- Turn the crown to set the hour and minute hands. Rotate the hands clockwise until the correct time is displayed. Ensure you differentiate between AM and PM when setting the date.
- Push the crown in to position 2 (middle position).
- Turn the crown clockwise or counter-clockwise to set the day and date. Avoid setting the date between 9:00 PM and 3:00 AM, as this is when the date change mechanism is engaged and could be damaged.
- Once the day and date are set, push the crown back to position 1 (fully pushed in). The second hand will resume movement.
3. Operating Your Watch
3.1. Automatic Movement
Your Zeppelin watch is equipped with an automatic movement (Cal. 8205). This movement is self-winding, meaning it harnesses the kinetic energy from your wrist's motion to power the watch. When worn regularly (approximately 8-10 hours a day), the watch will maintain its power reserve. If the watch is not worn for an extended period, it will stop and require manual winding as described in Section 2.1.
3.2. Water Resistance
This watch is splash-proof with a water resistance rating of 5 ATM (50 meters). This means it is suitable for everyday use and can withstand splashes, rain, and brief immersion in water. It is not suitable for swimming, showering, diving, or any water sports where the watch might be subjected to significant water pressure or prolonged immersion. Always ensure the crown is fully pushed in before any contact with water.
Warning: Do not operate the crown or pushers when the watch is wet or submerged in water.
4. Maintenance and Care
4.1. Cleaning
To maintain the appearance of your watch:
- Wipe the case and crystal with a soft, dry cloth.
- For the leather strap, avoid prolonged exposure to water, direct sunlight, and extreme temperatures. Clean with a dry or slightly damp soft cloth. Do not use chemical cleaners.
4.2. Storage
When not wearing your watch, store it in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and strong magnetic fields. If storing for an extended period, consider a watch winder to keep the automatic movement running and lubricated.
4.3. Service
For optimal performance, it is recommended to have your automatic watch serviced by an authorized service center every 3-5 years. This includes cleaning, lubrication, and adjustment of the movement.
5. Troubleshooting
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| Watch has stopped or runs intermittently. | Insufficient power reserve (not worn enough, or not manually wound). | Manually wind the watch by turning the crown 20-30 times (crown in position 1). Wear the watch regularly. |
| Time is inaccurate (running fast or slow). | Automatic watches can have slight deviations (typically +/- 15-30 seconds per day). Exposure to strong magnetic fields. | Adjust the time as needed. Keep the watch away from strong magnets (e.g., speakers, certain electronic devices). If deviation is excessive, seek professional service. |
| Day/Date does not change at midnight. | Time is set to AM instead of PM, or vice versa. | Advance the time by 12 hours. Ensure the date changes around midnight, not noon. |
