5. Advanced Features

The S.M.S.L DL200 incorporates several advanced features for enhanced audio performance and versatility.

5.1 High-Performance Headphone Amplifier

The DL200 features a powerful headphone amplifier circuit, capable of driving a wide range of headphones.

S.M.S.L DL200 PLFC Headphone Amplifier

Figure 5.1: PLFC High-Performance Headphone Amplifier
The DL200 is equipped with a 'PLFC' high-performance headphone amplifier circuit, delivering ultra-low distortion of 0.00009% (-120dB) and high output up to 3W at 16Ω. It offers adjustable high (+11dB) and low (0dB) output gain settings, and includes both 4.4mm and 6.35mm headphone output terminals for compatibility with various headphones.

5.2 Bluetooth Connectivity

The DL200 utilizes Qualcomm's latest Bluetooth 5.1 technology, supporting high-quality audio codecs for wireless streaming.

  • Supported Codecs: LDAC, aptX, aptX-HD, AAC, SBC.
  • aptX Adaptive: Provides high-quality, low-latency audio for a seamless wireless listening experience.
  • Pairing: Select Bluetooth input and pair with your device.

5.3 MQA Decoding

The DL200 supports full MQA (Master Quality Authenticated) decoding via USB, Optical, and Coaxial inputs, allowing you to experience studio-quality audio. Optical and Coaxial inputs also support MQA-CD playback.

5.4 Digital Phase-Locked Loop (DPLL)

The DPLL function, integrated with the ES9039Q2M DAC, allows adjustment of the clock synchronization tolerance range based on the quality of the source signal. For high-quality audio sources, setting DPLL to a narrower range (e.g., dP1) can maximize jitter elimination. If audio dropouts occur with lower quality sources, gradually increase the DPLL setting (e.g., dP2, dP3, dP4) until stable playback is achieved.

5.5 Digital Filters

The ES9039Q2M DAC in the DL200 offers 8 types of oversampling filters (FL1 to FL8) for out-of-band audio. These filters can subtly alter the sound characteristics. Experiment with different filter settings to find your preferred sound profile. Note that the audible difference may be minimal depending on your headphones/speakers and the audio source.

5.6 Internal Components

6. Maintenance

Proper care and maintenance will ensure the longevity and optimal performance of your S.M.S.L DL200.

  • Cleaning: Use a soft, dry cloth to clean the exterior of the unit. Avoid using abrasive cleaners or solvents.
  • Environment: Keep the unit in a dry, well-ventilated area, away from direct sunlight, heat sources, and excessive dust or moisture.
  • Handling: Avoid dropping or subjecting the unit to strong impacts.
  • Power: Disconnect the power cable if the unit will not be used for an extended period.

7. Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues with your DL200, refer to the following common problems and solutions.

  • No Sound Output:
    - Check all cable connections (power, input source, headphones/speakers).
    - Ensure the correct input source is selected on the DL200.
    - Verify the volume level is not set to minimum or muted.
    - If using USB, ensure the correct USB mode (1.1 or 2.0) is selected and drivers are installed if necessary for USB 2.0.
  • Intermittent Audio/Freezing (USB connection):
    - This can sometimes occur with USB connections, especially with certain PC configurations. Try switching between USB 1.1 and USB 2.0 modes.
    - Ensure your PC's USB drivers are up to date.
    - If using USB 2.0, ensure the S.M.S.L XMOS USB receiver chip driver is correctly installed on your PC.
  • Poor Bluetooth Connection:
    - Ensure the Bluetooth antenna is securely attached.
    - Move the DL200 closer to the Bluetooth source device.
    - Avoid obstructions between the DL200 and the source device.
  • Control Knob Issues:
    - If the control knob feels loose or unresponsive, ensure it is not stuck or obstructed. While the remote can handle most functions, some settings may require the knob.
  • Display Too Bright:
    - Adjust the screen brightness setting via the menu or remote control.

If the problem persists after attempting these solutions, please contact S.M.S.L customer support.
