4. Operating Instructions

4.1 Real-time Monitoring

The Bluelab Guardian Monitor provides continuous, real-time readings for three critical parameters:

  • Conductivity: Displays in EC/CF, TDS (ppm 500), and ppm 700 scales. Press the "Units" button next to the Conductivity display to cycle through the units.
  • Temperature: Displays in °C or °F. Press the "Units" button next to the Temperature display to switch between Celsius and Fahrenheit.
  • pH: Provides accurate pH measurements.

4.2 Setting Alarms

You can set high and low alarm points for pH, temperature, and conductivity to ensure your growing environment stays within optimal ranges. If a parameter falls outside the set range, the monitor will flash a visual alarm, and you will receive instant notifications via the Edenic app.

  1. On Device: Use the arrow buttons on the monitor to navigate to the alarm settings for each parameter and adjust the high/low thresholds.
  2. Via Edenic App: Access the device settings within the Edenic app to set and manage alarm ranges remotely.

Video 2: Demonstrates setting alarms and receiving notifications via the Edenic app.

4.3 Remote Monitoring and Data Logging

The Edenic by Bluelab app provides comprehensive remote access to your Guardian Monitor:

  • View current readings for all parameters.
  • Receive instant alerts on your smartphone if parameters deviate from set ranges.
  • Access historical data and trend reports to analyze your growing environment over time and make informed decisions.

5. Calibration

Regular calibration of your pH and conductivity probes is essential for maintaining accuracy and ensuring optimal performance of your Bluelab Guardian Monitor. Use fresh Bluelab calibration solutions for best results.

5.1 pH Probe Calibration

The pH probe requires a simple 2-point calibration process using pH 7.0 and pH 4.0 calibration solutions.

  1. Ensure your pH probe is clean and rinsed with RO water.
  2. Initiate pH calibration on the device (refer to the 'Getting Started Guide' for specific button presses).
  3. Place the pH probe into the pH 7.0 calibration solution. The device will automatically detect and calibrate to pH 7.0.
  4. Rinse the probe thoroughly with RO water.
  5. Place the pH probe into the pH 4.0 calibration solution. The device will automatically detect and calibrate to pH 4.0.
  6. Once both points are calibrated, the pH probe is ready for accurate measurements.

Video 3: Demonstrates the pH probe calibration process.

5.2 Conductivity Probe Calibration

The conductivity probe typically requires calibration with a known conductivity standard (e.g., 2.77 EC). Refer to your 'Getting Started Guide' for detailed instructions on conductivity calibration.

6. Maintenance

Proper maintenance extends the lifespan and accuracy of your Bluelab Guardian Monitor and its probes.

6.1 Probe Care

  • Cleaning: Regularly clean probes to remove nutrient buildup. Use a soft brush and Bluelab Probe Cleaner.
  • Storage: Always store the pH probe in Bluelab KCl Storage Solution when not in use to prevent the sensor from drying out.
  • Replacement: The Bluelab pH Probe is replaceable. If accuracy degrades despite proper cleaning and calibration, replace the pH probe.
