Setup
1. Battery Installation
Insert the provided Li-ion battery into the compartment on the back of the radio. Ensure it clicks securely into place. To remove, slide the release latch and gently pull the battery out.

2. Antenna Attachment
Screw the desired antenna (either the original or the 48cm tactical antenna) clockwise onto the connector at the top of the radio until it is finger-tight. Do not overtighten.

3. Charging the Battery
The UV-16R offers two charging methods:
- USB-C Direct Charging: Connect the provided Type-C charger cable directly to the USB-C port on the side of the radio. You can use a power bank, PC, car charger, or any USB adapter.
- Charger Base: Place the radio into the provided charger base. Ensure the charging contacts align. The indicator light on the charger will show the charging status.

4. Attaching the PTT Microphone
Connect the single PTT waterproof microphone to the accessory jack on the side of the radio. Ensure a firm connection for proper operation.
Operating Instructions
1. Power On/Off and Volume Control
Rotate the top knob clockwise to power on the radio and increase volume. Rotate counter-clockwise to decrease volume and power off.
2. Channel Selection and Frequency Input
Use the keypad to directly input frequencies or navigate through the 128 available channels. Refer to the radio's on-screen menu for specific channel programming instructions.
3. Transmitting and Receiving
To transmit, press and hold the PTT (Push-to-Talk) button on the side of the radio or the external microphone. Speak clearly into the microphone. Release the PTT button to switch to receive mode.
