4. Setup and Assembly
The Heybike Mars Electric Bike comes largely pre-assembled. Minimal setup is required before your first ride.
4.1 Unfolding the Bike
- Place the folded bike on a stable surface.
- Release the frame folding latch, typically located on the main frame tube. Carefully unfold the frame until it locks into place. Ensure the latch is securely fastened.
- Raise the handlebar stem and secure it with the quick-release lever. Ensure the safety latch is engaged.
- Adjust the handlebar height and angle for comfortable riding, then tighten all quick-release levers.
- Insert the seat post into the frame and adjust the seat height. Secure it with the quick-release lever.
- Unfold the pedals if they are in a folded position.
4.2 Battery Installation and Charging
The 48V 12.5Ah battery may be partially charged upon arrival. Fully charge the battery before your first ride.
- Installation: Insert the battery into its compartment on the frame and push firmly until it clicks into place. Use the key to lock the battery securely.
- Charging: Connect the charger to the charging port on the battery (either on or off the bike). Plug the charger into a standard wall outlet. The indicator light on the charger will show charging status (e.g., red for charging, green for fully charged).
- First Charge: Allow 5-7 hours for the initial full charge.
4.3 Tire Inflation
The 20" x 4.0" fat tires require specific pressure. Check the sidewall of the tire for the recommended PSI range. Inflate tires using a suitable pump.

5. Operating Instructions
5.1 Powering On/Off
To power on the bike, press and hold the power button on the control panel (usually located on the handlebars). The display will illuminate. To power off, press and hold the power button again.
5.2 Riding Modes
The Heybike Mars offers three riding modes:
- Pedal Assist Mode (PAS): The motor provides assistance as you pedal. Use the '+' and '-' buttons on the control panel to adjust the level of assistance (typically 1-5).
- Throttle Mode: Engage the throttle (usually a thumb throttle or twist grip) to propel the bike without pedaling. This mode provides power directly from the motor.
- Manual Mode: Ride the bike like a traditional bicycle without any motor assistance.
5.3 Gear Shifting
The bike is equipped with a 7-speed gear system. Use the shifter on the handlebars to change gears, allowing you to adapt to different terrains and inclines. Shift gears smoothly to avoid strain on the drivetrain.
5.4 Braking System
The Heybike Mars features dual disc brakes for reliable stopping power. Apply both brake levers simultaneously for effective and controlled braking. Avoid sudden, hard braking, especially at high speeds or on loose surfaces.
5.5 Folding the Bike
To fold the bike for storage or transport, reverse the unfolding steps. Ensure all latches are securely fastened in the folded position.
6. Maintenance
Regular maintenance ensures the longevity and safe operation of your Heybike Mars.
- Battery Care: Charge the battery regularly, even if not in use, to maintain its health. Store the battery in a cool, dry place, partially charged (50-70%) if storing for extended periods. Avoid fully discharging the battery.
- Tires: Check tire pressure before each ride. Inspect tires for wear, punctures, or damage. Replace worn tires promptly.
- Brakes: Regularly check brake pads for wear and brake levers for proper tension. Adjust or replace components as needed. Ensure disc rotors are clean and free of oil.
- Chain: Keep the chain clean and lubricated. Inspect for rust or excessive wear.
- Fasteners: Periodically check all bolts, nuts, and quick-release levers for tightness.
- Cleaning: Clean the bike with a damp cloth and mild soap. Avoid high-pressure washing directly on electrical components.
7. Troubleshooting
Here are solutions to common issues you might encounter:
- Bike Not Powering On:
- Ensure the battery is fully charged and securely installed.
- Check that the battery is locked into place with the key.
- Verify all cable connections are secure.
- Motor Not Assisting:
- Check the battery charge level.
- Ensure you are in a Pedal Assist (PAS) mode higher than 0, or engaging the throttle correctly.
- Inspect the brake levers; some e-bikes have cut-off switches that disengage the motor when brakes are applied.
- Brakes Not Effective:
- Check brake pad wear; replace if necessary.
- Adjust brake cable tension.
- Ensure disc rotors are clean and free of contaminants.
- Flat Tire:
- Locate the puncture and repair or replace the inner tube.
