2. Setup and Initial Operation

2.1 Winding the Watch

The PD-1662 is an automatic watch, meaning it is powered by the motion of your wrist. However, for initial setup or if the watch has stopped, manual winding is recommended.

  1. Unscrew the crown by turning it counter-clockwise until it springs free.
  2. In position 1 (fully pushed in, unscrewed), turn the crown clockwise approximately 20-30 times. This will provide enough power reserve to start the watch.
  3. The second hand should begin to move.

2.2 Setting the Time and Date

To set the time and date, follow these steps:

  1. Position 1 (Winding): Crown fully pushed in, unscrewed. Turn clockwise to manually wind.
  2. Position 2 (Date/GMT Adjustment): Pull the crown out one click.
    • Turn the crown clockwise to adjust the date.
    • Turn the crown counter-clockwise to adjust the GMT hand (24-hour hand).
  3. Position 3 (Time Setting): Pull the crown out two clicks.
    • Turn the crown to set the local time (hour and minute hands). The second hand will stop, allowing for precise time setting.
    • Ensure the 24-hour hand is synchronized with the local time's AM/PM cycle if desired.
  4. Once settings are complete, push the crown back into position 1 and screw it down clockwise firmly to ensure water resistance.

3. Operating the GMT Function

The GMT function allows you to track a second time zone using the dedicated 24-hour hand and the rotating bezel.

  1. Setting the GMT Hand: As described in Section 2.2, pull the crown to Position 2 and turn it counter-clockwise to set the 24-hour hand to your desired second time zone. This hand makes one full rotation every 24 hours.
  2. Using the Bezel: The unidirectional ceramic bezel can be rotated to align with the 24-hour hand, providing a quick reference for a third time zone or for tracking elapsed time.
    • To track a third time zone, rotate the bezel so that the desired time zone's hour mark aligns with the 24-hour hand.
    • The bezel is unidirectional, meaning it only rotates in one direction (typically counter-clockwise) to prevent accidental changes that could lead to overestimating elapsed time.

Water Resistance Guidelines

The PD-1662 watch is water resistant up to 100 meters (330 feet). This rating generally means it is suitable for professional marine activity and serious surface water sports.

  • Do not operate the crown or pushers while the watch is wet or submerged.
  • Ensure the crown is always screwed down tightly to maintain water resistance.
  • This watch is not suitable for scuba diving.
  • Avoid exposing the watch to extreme temperature changes, which can compromise seals.

4. Care and Maintenance

4.1 Cleaning

To maintain the appearance of your watch:

  • Wipe the watch case and bracelet regularly with a soft, dry cloth.
  • For stubborn dirt, use a soft brush and mild soapy water, then rinse thoroughly with clean water and dry immediately. Ensure the crown is screwed down before cleaning with water.
  • Avoid using harsh chemicals, solvents, or abrasive cleaners, as these can damage the watch's finish and seals.

4.2 Storage

When not wearing your watch for extended periods:

  • Store it in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures.
  • Consider using a watch winder to keep the automatic movement running and lubricated if you do not wear it daily.
  • Keep it away from strong magnetic fields, which can affect the accuracy of mechanical movements.

4.3 Water Resistance Longevity

The water resistance of your watch is not a permanent condition. Gaskets and seals can degrade over time due to wear, temperature changes, and chemical exposure.

  • It is recommended to have the water resistance checked by a qualified watchmaker every 1-2 years.
  • If the watch is exposed to saltwater, rinse it thoroughly with fresh water and dry it immediately.

5. Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues with your PD-1662 watch, refer to the following common problems and solutions:

  • Watch is not running:
    • Ensure the watch is sufficiently wound. Manually wind it 20-30 times (refer to Section 2.1).
    • Wear the watch regularly for at least 8-10 hours a day to keep the automatic movement charged.
  • Time is inaccurate:
    • Check if the watch has been exposed to strong magnetic fields. If so, demagnetization by a professional may be required.
    • Ensure the watch is fully wound. An under-wound automatic watch can lose accuracy.
    • Mechanical watches inherently have a slight deviation in accuracy. Refer to the specifications for expected daily variation.
  • Crown does not screw down:
    • Ensure the crown is fully pushed in (Position 1) before attempting to screw it down.
    • Gently push and turn clockwise. Do not force it, as this can damage the threads. If it still doesn't screw down, contact support.
  • Water inside the watch:
    • If you notice condensation or water droplets inside the crystal, immediately take the watch to a qualified watchmaker for inspection and repair. Do not attempt to dry it yourself.
    • This indicates a breach in water resistance, and prompt action is necessary to prevent further damage to the movement.
