2. General Safety Instructions

WARNING: Read all safety warnings, instructions, illustrations, and specifications provided with this power tool. Failure to follow all instructions listed below may result in electric shock, fire, and/or serious injury.

2.1. Work Area Safety

  • Keep the work area clean and well-lit. Cluttered or dark areas invite accidents.
  • Do not operate power tools in explosive atmospheres, such as in the presence of flammable liquids, gases, or dust. Power tools create sparks which may ignite the dust or fumes.
  • Keep children and bystanders away while operating a power tool. Distractions can cause you to lose control.

2.2. Electrical Safety

  • Power tool plugs must match the outlet. Never modify the plug in any way.
  • Avoid body contact with earthed or grounded surfaces, such as pipes, radiators, ranges, and refrigerators. There is an increased risk of electric shock if your body is earthed or grounded.
  • Do not expose power tools to rain or wet conditions. Water entering a power tool will increase the risk of electric shock.

2.3. Personal Safety

  • Stay alert, watch what you are doing, and use common sense when operating a power tool. Do not use a power tool while you are tired or under the influence of drugs, alcohol, or medication.
  • Use personal protective equipment. Always wear eye protection. Protective equipment such as a dust mask, non-skid safety shoes, hard hat, or hearing protection used for appropriate conditions will reduce personal injuries.
  • Prevent unintentional starting. Ensure the switch is in the off-position before connecting to a battery pack, picking up, or carrying the tool.
  • Remove any adjusting key or wrench before turning the power tool on. A wrench or a key left attached to a rotating part of the power tool may result in personal injury.

2.4. Circular Saw Specific Safety Warnings

  • DANGER: Keep hands away from cutting area and the blade. Keep your second hand on the auxiliary handle, or motor housing. If both hands are holding the saw, they cannot be cut by the blade.
  • Do not reach underneath the workpiece. The guard cannot protect you from the blade below the workpiece.
  • Adjust the cutting depth to the thickness of the workpiece. Less than a full tooth of the blade should be visible below the workpiece.
  • Never hold the workpiece in your hands or across your leg while cutting. Secure the workpiece to a stable platform. It is important to support the workpiece properly to minimize body exposure, blade binding, or loss of control.
  • Hold the power tool by insulated gripping surfaces, when performing an operation where the cutting accessory may contact hidden wiring. Contact with a "live" wire will also make exposed metal parts of the power tool "live" and could give the operator an electric shock.
  • When ripping, always use a rip fence or straight edge guide. This improves the accuracy of cut and reduces the chance of blade binding.
  • Always use blades with correct size and shape (diamond versus round) of arbor holes. Blades that do not match the mounting hardware of the saw will run eccentrically, causing loss of control.
  • Never use damaged or incorrect blade washers or bolt. The blade washers and bolt were specially designed for your saw, for optimum performance and safety of operation.

Key Components:

  1. Main Handle: For primary grip and control.
  2. Auxiliary Handle: Provides additional stability and control during operation.
  3. Trigger Switch: Activates the saw.
  4. Safety Lock-off Button: Prevents accidental starting.
  5. Blade Guard (Upper & Lower): Protects the user from the rotating blade. The lower guard retracts during cutting.
  6. Blade: The cutting accessory.
  7. Depth Adjustment Lever: Allows setting the desired cutting depth.
  8. Bevel Adjustment Lever: Allows setting the desired cutting angle (bevel).
  9. Base Plate (Shoe): Rests on the workpiece to guide the cut.
  10. Battery Port: Where the 18V battery pack is inserted.
  11. Spindle Lock Button: Used to lock the spindle for blade changes.

4. Setup

4.1. Battery Installation

  1. Ensure the saw is switched off and the safety lock-off button is engaged.
  2. Align the fully charged 18V Erbauer battery pack with the battery port on the saw.
  3. Slide the battery pack into the port until it clicks securely into place.
  4. To remove, press the battery release button and slide the battery out.

4.2. Blade Installation and Removal

WARNING: Always disconnect the battery pack before changing the blade.

  1. Place the saw on a flat, stable surface with the blade side facing up.
  2. Press and hold the spindle lock button.
  3. Using the provided wrench, loosen the arbor bolt by turning it counter-clockwise.
  4. Remove the arbor bolt, outer washer, and the old blade.
  5. Clean any dust or debris from the arbor and washers.
  6. Install the new blade, ensuring the rotation arrow on the blade matches the rotation arrow on the saw's guard.
  7. Replace the outer washer and arbor bolt. Tighten the arbor bolt securely by turning it clockwise while holding the spindle lock button. Do not overtighten.
  8. Release the spindle lock button and check that the blade rotates freely.

4.3. Depth Adjustment

Adjust the cutting depth so that the blade extends approximately 3-6mm (1/8-1/4 inch) below the workpiece.

  1. Loosen the depth adjustment lever.
  2. Raise or lower the base plate to achieve the desired cutting depth.
  3. Tighten the depth adjustment lever firmly.

4.4. Bevel Adjustment

The saw can make bevel cuts at various angles.

  1. Loosen the bevel adjustment lever.
  2. Tilt the base plate to the desired angle (e.g., 45 degrees) using the angle scale.
  3. Tighten the bevel adjustment lever firmly.

5. Operating Instructions

5.1. Before Starting

  • Ensure the workpiece is securely clamped or supported.
  • Check that the blade is sharp and appropriate for the material being cut.
  • Verify that all adjustments (depth, bevel) are securely tightened.
  • Wear appropriate personal protective equipment (safety glasses, hearing protection, dust mask).

5.2. Starting and Stopping the Saw

  1. To start: Press the safety lock-off button, then squeeze the trigger switch.
  2. To stop: Release the trigger switch. The blade brake will quickly stop the blade rotation.

5.3. Making a Cut

  1. Position the front edge of the base plate on the workpiece, ensuring the blade is clear of the material.
  2. Start the saw and allow the blade to reach full speed before engaging the material.
  3. Slowly and steadily push the saw forward through the workpiece, maintaining firm contact with the base plate.
  4. Do not force the saw; let the blade do the work.
  5. Once the cut is complete, release the trigger switch and allow the blade to stop completely before lifting the saw from the workpiece.

5.4. Kickback Prevention

Kickback is a sudden reaction to a pinched, bound, or misaligned saw blade, causing an uncontrolled saw to lift up and out of the workpiece toward the operator. To avoid kickback:

  • Maintain a firm grip with both hands on the saw.
  • Keep your body positioned to either side of the blade, not in line with it.
  • Ensure the workpiece is properly supported to prevent pinching the blade.
  • Never cut freehand.
  • Do not force the saw.
  • Ensure the lower guard is functioning correctly and retracts smoothly.

6. Maintenance

WARNING: Always remove the battery pack before performing any maintenance or cleaning.

6.1. Cleaning

  • Regularly clean the ventilation openings of the saw to prevent overheating.
  • Use a soft brush or compressed air to remove dust and debris from the motor housing, blade guard, and base plate.
  • Do not use water or chemical cleaning agents.

6.2. Blade Care

  • Inspect the blade before each use for sharpness, cracks, or missing teeth. Replace damaged blades immediately.
  • Keep blades clean and free of resin buildup, which can cause binding and overheating.

6.3. General Inspection

  • Check all screws and fasteners for tightness.
  • Ensure the lower blade guard moves freely and retracts properly.
  • Inspect the battery pack for damage.
