5. Setup and Installation
Follow these steps to replace your turntable stylus. For a visual guide, please refer to the embedded video below.
- Secure the Tonearm: Gently secure the tonearm of your turntable to its rest using the locking clamp.
- Remove Old Stylus Protector (if applicable): If your old stylus has a protector, carefully slide it over the stylus assembly.
- Remove Headshell: Carefully remove the headshell from the tonearm by loosening the headshell locking ring.
- Remove Old Stylus: While holding the headshell, grasp the sides of the old stylus protector and slowly pull the stylus assembly up and off the cartridge body using a slight rocking motion.
- Prepare New Stylus: Remove the new ReadyWired stylus from its packaging. Ensure the stylus assembly is fully seated in its protector.
- Install New Stylus: While holding the headshell, align the tab on the underside of the new stylus with the rectangular opening in the cartridge body. Carefully press the stylus assembly into the cartridge body until it seats firmly with a slight "click" sound.
- Reinstall Headshell: Without removing the stylus protective cover, reinstall the headshell with the cartridge assembly onto the tonearm.
- Tighten Locking Ring: Tighten the headshell locking ring by turning it in a counterclockwise direction. As the ring rotates, it pulls the headshell into its seated position. Tighten carefully.
- Remove Stylus Protector: Remove the stylus protective cover and release the tonearm locking clamp.

6. Operating Instructions
Once the new stylus is installed, you can resume normal turntable operation. Ensure the tracking force is set correctly according to your turntable's specifications for optimal sound quality and to prevent premature wear of your records and stylus.
7. Maintenance
- Stylus Cleaning: Regularly clean the stylus tip using a soft brush designed for stylus cleaning. Brush gently from back to front to remove dust and debris.
- Stylus Replacement: Stylus wear is dependent on the stylus type and the tracking force. For elliptical styli, replacement is generally recommended after approximately 300 hours of record play. Conical styli may last 300-500 hours. Higher-performance styli like Shibata or Microlinear can last longer, up to 800-1000 hours. Replace the stylus when you notice a degradation in sound quality, such as increased distortion or a muddy sound.
- Record Care: Keep your records clean and free of dust to extend the life of your stylus and improve sound quality.
8. Troubleshooting
- Poor Sound Quality: If the sound is distorted, muddy, or lacks clarity, check if the stylus tip is clean. Ensure the stylus is correctly seated in the cartridge. Verify that the tracking force is set to the manufacturer's recommended value for your turntable. If the stylus has many hours of use, it may be worn and require replacement.
- Skipping: Check if the record is clean and free of scratches. Ensure the tracking force is correctly set. Verify that the anti-skate setting on your tonearm is properly adjusted.
- No Sound: Check all cable connections from the turntable to your amplifier/receiver. Ensure the turntable is powered on and the correct input is selected on your audio system.
