4. Installation and Setup

The photocell switch utilizes a three-wire system for connection. Ensure all power is disconnected before attempting installation.

  1. Black Wire (Line): Connect the black wire to the positive (+) power supply (input line).
  2. White Wire (Common): Connect the white wire to the negative (-) power supply (common line).
  3. Red Wire (Load): Connect the red wire to the positive (+) terminal of the lighting fixture or load. The negative (-) terminal of the load should be connected to the common line (white wire).

Ensure connections are secure and insulated. The sensor part of the switch should be positioned where it can accurately detect ambient light without being obstructed or exposed to direct artificial light sources at night.

5. Operation

Once properly installed and powered, the photocell switch operates automatically. It continuously monitors the ambient light level:

  • During the day, when the illumination level is above the "off" threshold (30-60 LX), the switch will keep the connected lights off.
  • At dusk or when the illumination level drops below the "on" threshold (5-10 LX), the switch will automatically turn on the connected lights.
  • There is an anti-interference delay of approximately 0.6 seconds to prevent flickering due to momentary light fluctuations.

6. Maintenance

The GOTOTOP Photocell Switch is designed for minimal maintenance. To ensure optimal performance and longevity:

  • Cleanliness: Periodically inspect the sensor lens for dirt, dust, or debris. Gently clean with a soft, damp cloth if necessary to ensure accurate light detection.
  • Environmental Conditions: Ensure the switch is not installed in environments with corrosive gases. It is designed to operate within a temperature range of -40℃ to +70℃.
  • Physical Inspection: Occasionally check the wiring connections for any signs of wear or damage.

7. Troubleshooting

If the photocell switch is not functioning as expected, consider the following:

  • Lights always on/off:
    • Verify correct wiring according to the diagram in Section 4. Incorrect wiring is a common cause.
    • Check the sensor's location. If it's exposed to artificial light at night (e.g., streetlights, porch lights), it may prevent the lights from turning on. If it's in constant shadow during the day, lights may remain on.
    • Ensure the sensor lens is clean and free from obstructions.
  • Flickering lights:
    • While the switch has an anti-interference delay, extreme fluctuations in light (e.g., passing car headlights directly hitting the sensor) might cause momentary changes. Relocate the sensor if this is a persistent issue.
    • Check for loose wiring connections.
  • No power to the device:
    • Confirm the power supply voltage is within the specified range (8V to 50V DC).
    • Check circuit breakers or fuses.
