5. Maintenance
Regular maintenance will prolong the life and ensure the safe operation of your Meeviz bike rack.
- Cleaning: Clean the rack regularly with mild soap and water, especially after exposure to road salt, dirt, or harsh weather conditions. Rinse thoroughly and dry completely to prevent rust.
- Inspections: Before each use, inspect all bolts, pins, and straps for tightness and wear. Ensure the rubber padding on the hooks is intact and not worn.
- Lubrication: Periodically apply a light lubricant to moving parts and hinge points to ensure smooth operation.
- Storage: When not in use, store the rack in a dry, protected area to prevent exposure to elements that could cause corrosion.
6. Troubleshooting
This section addresses common issues you might encounter with your bike rack.
- Rack Wobbles in Hitch:
Ensure the anti-wobble hitch pin is fully inserted and tightened. Verify that the hitch tightener anti-rattle clamp is correctly installed and secured. - Bikes Scratching:
Check that the rubber padded hooks are properly positioned and not damaged. Ensure bikes are securely fastened with the safety strap to prevent movement during transit. - Difficulty Loading Step-Through Bikes:
Step-through bikes often lack a traditional top tube for the hooks to grip. Consider purchasing an adapter bar (sold separately) designed for step-through frames to provide a stable mounting point. - Minor Surface Rust:
While made of rustproof alloy steel, prolonged exposure to moisture or salt can cause minor surface rust, especially on welds or scratched areas. Clean affected areas and apply a rust-inhibiting paint or coating. Regular cleaning and drying, as per the Maintenance section, will help prevent this.
