2.2 Battery Installation

The LifePod requires one (1) 9V alkaline battery (not included) for electronic functions. The battery compartment is typically located on the underside or within the interior of the lid. Ensure correct polarity when inserting the battery. A fresh 9V battery provides approximately one year of normal use.

2.3 Setting Access Codes

Your LifePod offers two primary electronic access methods: biometric fingerprint and a keypad code.

2.3.1 Biometric Fingerprint Enrollment

  1. Open the LifePod using the manual keys or the default keypad code (if applicable).
  2. Locate the 'Program' button inside the case. Press and hold it until the indicator light changes (refer to your specific model's indicator light sequence for details).
  3. Place your finger on the biometric scanner. Lift and repeat several times, rotating your finger slightly with each placement, until the indicator confirms successful enrollment.
  4. You can enroll up to 20 unique fingerprints. Repeat the process for each desired fingerprint.

2.3.2 Keypad Code Setup

  1. Open the LifePod.
  2. Press and hold the 'Program' button until the indicator light changes.
  3. Enter your desired 4-8 digit master code on the backlit keypad.
  4. Press the 'Program' button again to confirm. The indicator light will confirm successful code setting.

2.4 Anti-Picking Feature

For enhanced security, the LifePod includes an anti-picking feature that can disable the front keyway. Consult your specific model's manual for instructions on how to enable or disable this feature from the interior of the case.

3. Operating the LifePod

3.1 Opening the Case

The LifePod can be opened using three methods:

  • Biometric Fingerprint: Place an enrolled finger on the scanner. The case will unlock if the fingerprint is recognized.
  • Keypad Code: Enter your 4-8 digit master code on the backlit keypad. The case will unlock upon correct entry.
  • Manual Keys: Insert one of the provided manual keys into the keyway and turn to unlock. This is useful for initial setup or in case of battery depletion.

3.2 Securing the Case

To secure the LifePod, close the lid and ensure the dual side compression latches are fully engaged. The built-in lock system provides additional security. For travel, utilize the steel security cable to tether the LifePod to a fixed object.

3.3 Environmental Protection

The LifePod is designed to be airtight, dustproof, and capable of floating in water when properly sealed. The dual side compression latches and inner rubber gasket create a robust seal, protecting contents from environmental factors. It can function as a waterproof case even without a battery installed.

3.4 Emergency Power (Micro-USB)

In the event of a dead battery, the LifePod features an integrated micro-USB port, typically disguised by a rubber keyhole cover. Connect a micro-USB cable to an external power source (e.g., power bank, wall adapter) to temporarily power the unit and gain access using your keypad code or biometric scan.

3.5 TSA Compliance

The VAULTEK LifePod meets TSA guidelines for travel with firearms, provided it is properly secured and declared according to airline and TSA regulations. Always verify current regulations before traveling.

4. Maintenance

4.1 Battery Replacement

Replace the 9V alkaline battery annually or when the low battery indicator is displayed. To replace, open the case, locate the battery compartment, remove the old battery, and insert a new one, ensuring correct polarity.

4.2 Cleaning

Clean the exterior of the LifePod with a soft, damp cloth. Avoid abrasive cleaners or solvents that could damage the polymer finish. For the biometric scanner, use a clean, dry microfiber cloth to gently wipe the surface.

4.3 Seal Inspection

Periodically inspect the inner rubber gasket and dual side compression latches for any signs of wear, damage, or debris. A clean, intact seal is crucial for maintaining the LifePod's waterproof and dustproof properties.

5. Troubleshooting

5.1 Case Not Opening Electronically

  • Check Battery: Ensure the 9V battery is fresh and correctly installed.
  • Emergency Power: Use the micro-USB port with an external power source.
  • Manual Keys: Always use the manual keys as a backup access method.

5.2 Biometric Scanner Issues

  • Clean Sensor: Ensure the scanner surface and your finger are clean and dry.
  • Re-enroll Fingerprint: If issues persist, try deleting and re-enrolling your fingerprint.
  • Try Different Finger: Use another enrolled finger or the keypad.

5.3 Keypad Not Responding

  • Check Battery: A low battery can affect keypad responsiveness.
  • Micro-USB Power: Connect external power via micro-USB.
  • Correct Code: Ensure you are entering the correct 4-8 digit code.
