6. Maintenance
6.1 Regular Testing
Test your smoke alarm weekly by pressing and holding the Test-Hush button until the alarm sounds. This confirms the alarm's electronics, battery, and horn are working.
6.2 Cleaning Your Alarm
Dust and debris can accumulate in the sensing chamber, potentially causing nuisance alarms or reducing sensitivity. Clean your alarm at least once a month:
- Remove the alarm from its mounting bracket.
- Use a soft brush attachment on your vacuum cleaner to remove dust from the alarm's exterior and around the sensing chamber openings.
- Alternatively, use a can of compressed air to blow out any dust.
- Reinstall the alarm and test it.
6.3 Battery Information
The Kidde Smart Smoke Alarm features a 10-year sealed lithium battery. This battery is designed to last the entire lifespan of the alarm and is not replaceable. When the alarm reaches its end-of-life, it will chirp and announce "Replace Alarm". At this point, the entire unit must be replaced.
7. Troubleshooting
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| Alarm sounds frequently without smoke (Nuisance Alarm) | Cooking fumes, steam, high humidity, dust, insects, proximity to vents. | Press the Hush button. Clean the alarm (see Maintenance). Relocate the alarm if consistently triggered by non-fire sources. Ensure proper ventilation during cooking. |
| Alarm chirps periodically | End-of-life warning, low battery (though sealed, this indicates unit replacement). | If the alarm announces "Replace Alarm", the unit has reached its end-of-life and must be replaced. You can temporarily silence chirps for up to 24 hours by pressing the Test-Hush button. |
| Alarm does not sound during test | No AC power, faulty unit, battery issue. | Check circuit breaker. Ensure alarm is properly connected to AC power. If green LED is off, check wiring. If problem persists, replace the unit. |
| Cannot connect to Wi-Fi or Kidde App | Incorrect Wi-Fi password, 5GHz network, weak signal, app issues. | Ensure your phone is on a 2.4GHz Wi-Fi network. Verify Wi-Fi password. Move alarm closer to router. Restart router and alarm. Reinstall Kidde app if necessary. |
| Amber LED indicator is on | Operating error or fault. | Clean the alarm. If the amber light persists after cleaning and a power cycle, the unit may be faulty and require replacement. |
