Components

The Stanley Travel Mug with Integrated French Press consists of the following main components:

  • French Press Plunger Assembly: Includes a mesh filter to separate coffee grounds from the brewed coffee.
  • Leakproof Lid: Designed for secure closure and easy sipping.

Setup

  1. 1. Initial Cleaning:

Before first use, wash all components (mug, plunger, lid) with warm, soapy water. Rinse thoroughly and dry.

  2. 2. Add Coffee Grounds:

Remove the plunger assembly from the mug. Add your desired amount of coarse-ground coffee to the bottom of the mug. For optimal results, use a coarse grind to prevent grounds from passing through the mesh filter.

  3. 3. Add Hot Water:

Pour hot (not boiling) water over the coffee grounds. Ensure the water temperature is appropriate to avoid burning the coffee. Leave enough space at the top for the plunger.

  4. 4. Insert Plunger:

Slowly insert the plunger assembly into the mug, just resting it on top of the water and grounds. Do not press down yet.

Operating Instructions

  1. 1. Brew Coffee:

Allow the coffee to steep for 4-5 minutes, or longer for a stronger brew. The steeping time can be adjusted to your preference.

  2. 2. Press Coffee:

Once steeped, slowly and steadily press the plunger down until it reaches the bottom of the mug. This separates the coffee grounds from the liquid.

Note: If the plunger is difficult to press, the grind might be too fine or too much coffee was used. Lift the plunger slightly to release pressure, then continue pressing. Avoid forcing the plunger down, as this can cause grounds to bypass the filter.

  3. 3. Secure Lid:

Remove the plunger assembly. Secure the leakproof lid onto the mug by twisting it clockwise until tight. The lid features a convenient carry handle.

Maintenance and Cleaning

The Stanley Travel Mug with Integrated French Press is designed for easy cleaning. All components are dishwasher safe.

  • Disassemble all parts (mug, plunger, lid).
  • Wash thoroughly in a dishwasher or by hand with warm, soapy water.
  • Ensure all coffee grounds are removed from the mesh filter and mug interior.
  • Rinse well and allow to air dry completely before reassembling or storing.

Troubleshooting

Plunger is Hard to Press or Grounds in Coffee:

  • Grind Size: Ensure your coffee grounds are coarse. Too fine a grind can clog the mesh filter and make pressing difficult, leading to grounds in your coffee.
  • Coffee Quantity: Using too much coffee can also impede the plunger. Adjust the amount of coffee to allow for smooth pressing.
  • Tamping: Insufficiently tamping the grounds before brewing can lead to inadequate pressure.
  • Reprogramming: The amount of espresso extracted will vary depending on the grind size and amount. Reprogramming may be needed when the size and amount are adjusted.
