Package Contents

Verify that all items listed below are included in your package:

  • (2) NHD-888MSD Cameras
  • (2) Cat5e Ethernet Cables (60ft / 18m)

Setup

1. Planning Your Installation

Consider the following when planning your camera placement:

  • Viewing Angle: The camera offers a 93° viewing angle. Position it to cover the desired area effectively.
  • Power over Ethernet (PoE): These cameras are PoE, meaning power and data are supplied via a single Ethernet cable. Ensure your NVR or network switch supports PoE.
  • Night Vision: For optimal night vision performance, avoid placing the camera directly facing strong light sources that could cause glare.
  • Weather Protection: While rated IP66 for outdoor use, consider sheltered locations to prolong product life.

2. Mounting the Camera

  1. Select Location: Choose a suitable mounting surface (wall or ceiling) that provides a clear view and is within reach of the provided Cat5e Ethernet cable.
  2. Mark Drill Holes: Use the camera's base as a template to mark the positions for drilling.
  3. Drill Holes: Drill pilot holes for the mounting screws. If mounting on masonry, insert wall plugs.
  4. Secure Camera: Attach the camera base to the mounting surface using the provided screws.
  5. Adjust Angle: Loosen the adjustment screws on the camera body to position the lens for the desired viewing angle. Tighten screws once adjusted.

3. Connecting the Camera

  1. Connect one end of the Cat5e Ethernet cable to the camera's Ethernet port.
  2. Connect the other end of the Cat5e Ethernet cable to a PoE port on your compatible Swann NVR or PoE network switch.
  3. Ensure the NVR or network switch is powered on. The camera will receive power and data automatically.

Operating Instructions

1. Initial Setup with NVR

Refer to your Swann NVR's user manual for specific instructions on adding IP cameras to your system. Generally, the NVR will automatically detect and configure PoE cameras connected to its dedicated PoE ports.

2. Accessing Live View

Once connected and configured, you can view the live feed from your camera through your Swann NVR's interface or via the Swann App on your smartphone or tablet.

3. Smart Analytics and Alerts

The camera supports Human and Vehicle Detection. Configure these settings within your NVR or the Swann App to receive smart alerts and notifications on your phone.

4. Recording Options

Your NVR offers various recording modes:

  • Continuous 24/7 Recording: Records constantly to the NVR's hard drive.
  • True Detect (Heat & Motion) Triggered Recording: Records only when heat and motion are detected by the PIR sensor. This conserves storage space and extends recording duration.

5. Audio Functionality

The camera includes a built-in microphone for 1-way audio recording. Ensure audio recording is enabled in your NVR settings if you wish to capture sound.

Maintenance

1. Cleaning the Camera

Periodically clean the camera lens and housing to ensure optimal image quality. Use a soft, damp cloth. Avoid abrasive cleaners or solvents.

2. Firmware Updates

Check the Swann website or your NVR's settings periodically for available firmware updates. Keeping your camera's firmware up-to-date ensures optimal performance and security.

3. Cable Inspection

Inspect the Ethernet cables for any signs of wear or damage, especially in outdoor installations. Damaged cables can affect camera performance.

Troubleshooting

No Image/Video from Camera:
  • Ensure the Ethernet cable is securely connected at both the camera and the NVR/PoE switch.
  • Verify that the NVR/PoE switch is powered on and functioning correctly.
  • Check if the camera is properly added and configured in your NVR's settings.
  • Try connecting the camera to a different PoE port or using a different Ethernet cable.
Poor Image Quality:
  • Clean the camera lens with a soft cloth.
  • Ensure there are no obstructions in the camera's field of view.
  • Check for strong light sources causing glare, especially during night vision operation.
  • Verify the video resolution settings in your NVR.
Motion Detection Not Working/False Alarms:
  • Adjust the sensitivity settings for True Detect (PIR) in your NVR or Swann App.
  • Ensure the camera's PIR sensor is not obstructed.
  • Avoid placing the camera where moving objects like tree branches or reflections might trigger false alarms.
No Audio Recording:
  • Verify that audio recording is enabled in your NVR's camera settings.
  • Ensure the camera's microphone is not obstructed.
