Setup

  1. Battery Installation: The thermometer requires 1 CR2 battery (included). Locate the battery compartment on the back of the device. Use a coin to twist the battery cover counter-clockwise to open. Insert the CR2 battery with the positive (+) side facing up. Replace the cover and twist clockwise to secure.

  1. Initial Power On: Unfold the stainless steel probe from the body of the thermometer. The device will automatically power on and display the current ambient temperature.
  2. Unit Selection: Press the "°C/°F CAL" button to switch between Celsius and Fahrenheit temperature units.

Operating Instructions

  1. Taking a Temperature Reading:
    • Unfold the probe to power on the thermometer.
    • Insert the tip of the stainless steel probe into the thickest part of the food, avoiding bones or gristle.
    • Wait for 1-2 seconds for the temperature reading to stabilize on the digital display.
    • Refer to the temperature guide printed on the thermometer body or a reliable cooking chart for recommended internal temperatures for different types of meat.

  1. Backlight Function: Press the light bulb button to activate the backlight for easier reading in low-light conditions. Press again to turn off.
  2. Hold Function: Press the "HOLD MAX MIN" button to hold the current temperature reading on the display. Press again to release. This button can also cycle through maximum and minimum recorded temperatures.
  3. Calibration: If you suspect the thermometer is not accurate, you can calibrate it using an ice bath. Fill a glass with crushed ice and cold water. Insert the probe into the ice water, ensuring the tip is fully submerged but not touching the bottom or sides of the glass. Wait for the reading to stabilize. If it does not read 32°F (0°C), press and hold the "°C/°F CAL" button for 3 seconds until "CAL" appears, then release. The display should adjust to 32°F (0°C).
  4. Power Off: Fold the probe back into the body of the thermometer to automatically power off the device. It will also automatically shut off after 10 minutes of inactivity to conserve battery life.

Troubleshooting

Thermometer not turning on:
  • Ensure the probe is fully unfolded.
  • Check if the battery is correctly installed with the correct polarity.
  • Replace the battery if it is depleted.
Inaccurate readings:
  • Ensure the probe tip is inserted into the thickest part of the food and not touching bone or gristle.
  • Calibrate the thermometer using the ice bath method as described in the Operating Instructions.
Display is dim or flickering:
  • Replace the battery.
