3. Setup

3.1 Initial Charging

Your Orient Solar Quartz watch is powered by light. Before initial use, or if the watch has stopped, expose the dial to bright light (natural sunlight is ideal) for several hours to ensure it is sufficiently charged. The watch will continue to charge as long as it is exposed to light.

3.2 Setting the Time and Date

  1. Pull the Crown: Gently pull the crown out to the first click position to set the date, or to the second click position to set the time.
  2. Set the Date: In the first click position, rotate the crown to adjust the date. Avoid setting the date between 9 PM and 3 AM to prevent damage to the movement.
  3. Set the Time: In the second click position, rotate the crown to move the hour and minute hands. Ensure the AM/PM is correctly set by observing the 24-hour sub-dial (if applicable) or by advancing the time past 12 o'clock to see if the date changes.
  4. Push the Crown Back: Once the time and date are set, push the crown back into its normal position to start the watch.

4. Operating the Chronograph

The chronograph function allows you to measure elapsed time.

  1. Start: Press Pusher A (top pusher) to start the chronograph. The chronograph second hand will begin to move.
  2. Stop: Press Pusher A again to stop the chronograph. The elapsed time will be indicated by the chronograph hands.
  3. Reset: After stopping the chronograph, press Pusher B (bottom pusher) to reset all chronograph hands to their zero positions.
  4. Split Time: Some chronographs allow for split time measurement. Consult the detailed movement manual for specific instructions if this feature is desired.

4.1 Water Resistance

Your watch has a water resistance rating of 200 meters (20 ATM). This makes it suitable for skin-diving and general water activities. However, it is not recommended for saturation diving. Always ensure the crown is fully pushed in before exposing the watch to water.

5. Maintenance

5.1 Cleaning

To maintain the appearance of your watch, wipe the case and crystal with a soft, dry cloth regularly. For the stainless steel bracelet, a soft brush with mild soap and water can be used, followed by thorough rinsing and drying. Avoid using harsh chemicals or abrasive materials.

5.2 Solar Charging Care

To ensure the solar battery remains charged, expose your watch to light regularly. Avoid prolonged storage in dark places, as this can deplete the battery and potentially shorten its lifespan. If the watch stops due to insufficient charge, expose it to bright light for an extended period to reactivate it.

5.3 Bracelet Adjustment

The stainless steel bracelet features a clasp with micro-adjustments. Due to the design, there are typically two micro-adjustment positions and a relatively large link size. For precise fitting, it is recommended to have the bracelet adjusted by a professional watchmaker.

6. Troubleshooting

  • Watch has stopped: Ensure the watch has received sufficient light exposure for charging. Place it under bright light for several hours.
  • Time or Date is incorrect: Refer to Section 3.2 for instructions on how to manually set the time and date.
  • Chronograph hands do not reset to zero: This may require a chronograph reset procedure. Consult the full movement manual or contact customer support for assistance.
