2. Safety Information

Always prioritize safety when working with electricity. This device is designed to enhance safety, but proper precautions must always be taken.

  • WARNING: With this device, life-threatening voltages are tested, so special care is required!
  • Always first test the voltage tester on a known live circuit to make sure it works.
  • When checking uninsulated contacts, wear safety shoes to prevent an electric shock.
  • When checking uninsulated contacts, also hold onto the tester and make sure your fingers are behind the anti-slip guard.
  • Do not use the device if:
    • The screen is not lit.
    • Damage to the device is evident.
    • The tip is not intact.
  • The tester WILL NOT detect voltage if:
    • The voltage is DC.
    • The wire is shielded.
    • The operator is not grounded or is otherwise isolated from the ground.
  • The tester MAY NOT detect voltage if:
    • The wire is partially buried or in a grounded metal conduit.
    • The tester is at a distance from the voltage source.
    • The wire is too thick or the type of insulation is incompatible.
  • Do not use this device to test voltage greater than 1000V.
  • Use caution with voltages above 30V AC as they are a possible shock hazard.

3. Product Features

  • Safety Alarms: The device provides multiple alarms through sound and light. When voltage is detected, the tip emits a red light and beeps. Higher sensed voltage or closer proximity to the source results in a higher frequency beep and a larger percentage value on the screen. The screen displays red for high voltage/live wire and green for low voltage/null wire.
  • Non-Contact Detection: Equipped with an NCV inductive probe for AC voltage. Simply place the tip near a terminal strip, outlet, or supply cord. A red glowing tip and beeping indicate voltage presence. It automatically detects live or neutral wires and is ideal for breakpoint testing.
  • Dual Range Sensitivity: Detects standard and low voltage (12-1000V AC / 70-1000V AC) for flexible measurements. Press the 'S' button to adjust sensitivity for low-range applications like doorbells or thermostats. The NCV sensor automatically recognizes voltage and displays signal intensity as a percentage and on a bar graph.
  • Security Level: IEC rated CAT III 1000V CAT IV 600V, meeting CE requirements. The electrical tester is safely double insulated. A High Voltage Alert warns of voltages above 90V by turning the screen red and illuminating a safety symbol.
  • Compact Design: Features a bright LED flashlight for working in dim areas, a Low-Power-Indicator when battery voltage drops below 2.5V, and Automatic Power Off after 5 minutes of inactivity or no signal detection. Its pocket-sized design with a pen hook allows for easy carrying.

5. Setup: Battery Installation

The KAIWEETS HT100s requires two AAA 1.5V batteries for operation. These are typically included with your purchase.

  1. Unscrew the battery cover at the bottom of the tester.
  2. Insert two AAA 1.5V batteries, ensuring correct polarity (+/-).
  3. Securely screw the battery cover back on.

6. Operating Instructions

6.1 Power On/Off

  • To Power On: Press and hold the power button for more than 1 second. The LCD screen will light up.
  • To Power Off: Briefly press the power button again. The tester will turn off.
  • Automatic Power Off: The device will automatically shut down after 5 minutes of no operation or signal detection to conserve battery life.

6.2 Sensitivity Adjustment (Dual Range)

The HT100s offers two sensitivity modes:

  • Low Sensitivity Mode (70-1000V AC): This is the default mode when the tester is first powered on. It's suitable for standard household voltage detection.
  • High Sensitivity Mode (12-1000V AC): To enter this mode, briefly press the 'S' button. This mode is ideal for detecting lower voltages, such as those found in doorbells, thermostats, or irrigation wiring.

6.3 Voltage Detection (Live/Null Wire)

To detect AC voltage:

  1. Turn on the tester and select the appropriate sensitivity mode.
  2. Place the NCV probe tip near the wire, outlet, or terminal strip you wish to test.
  3. Observe the visual and audible indicators:
    • Red Screen & Rapid Beeping: Indicates high voltage or a live wire. The percentage value will increase with stronger signals.
    • Green Screen & Slower Beeping: Indicates low voltage or a null wire.

6.4 Wire Breakpoint Finder

The HT100s can help locate breakpoints in wires:

  1. Move the NCV tip along the wire.
  2. If the voltage alert (red light and beeping) disappears at a certain point, that is most likely the breakpoint in the wire.

6.5 LED Flashlight

To activate the built-in LED flashlight:

  • Press and hold the flashlight button (often integrated with the sensitivity button) for more than 2 seconds to turn the flashlight on or off.

7. Maintenance

  • Cleaning: Wipe the device with a dry, clean cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents.
  • Battery Replacement: Replace batteries when the Low-Power-Indicator appears on the screen to ensure accurate readings.
  • Storage: Store the tester in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures.

8. Troubleshooting

  • No Power: Check if batteries are inserted correctly and have sufficient charge. Replace if necessary.
  • Inconsistent Readings: Ensure the probe tip is clean and not damaged. Test on a known live circuit to verify functionality. Adjust sensitivity mode as needed.
  • No Detection: Remember the limitations of non-contact testers (e.g., shielded wires, DC voltage, operator isolation). Ensure the device is functioning correctly on a known live source.
