  • Outdoor Use Only: This grill is designed for outdoor use only. Do not operate indoors or in an enclosed area.
  • Clearance: Maintain a minimum clearance of 36 inches (91 cm) from the back and sides of the grill to any combustible materials.
  • Gas Leaks: Always perform a leak test on all gas connections before initial use and after any gas cylinder change. Use a soap and water solution; never use a flame.
  • Ventilation: Ensure adequate ventilation around the grill. Do not block airflow to the combustion and ventilation openings.
  • Children and Pets: Keep children and pets away from the grill at all times, especially during operation and while cooling down.
  • Hot Surfaces: The grill surfaces become extremely hot during operation. Use heat-resistant gloves and appropriate tools.
  • Propane Cylinder: Use only a 20 lb (9 kg) propane cylinder (not included) with an OPD (Overfill Protection Device) and a Type 1 connection. Always store propane cylinders outdoors in a well-ventilated area.
  • Grease Fires: Clean the grease tray regularly to prevent grease fires. If a grease fire occurs, turn off the gas supply and keep the lid open until the fire extinguishes. Do not use water.

Setup and Installation

1. Unpacking and Inspection:

3. Gas Connection (Propane):

  • Connect the included propane hose and regulator to a standard 20 lb (9 kg) propane cylinder.
  • Ensure all connections are tight.
  • Perform a leak test: Apply a soap and water solution to all gas connections. Bubbles indicate a leak. Tighten connections or replace parts as necessary. Do not operate the grill if a leak is detected.

4. Natural Gas Conversion (Optional):

This grill is convertible to natural gas. A natural gas conversion kit is sold separately. All Mont Alpi grills come with both propane and natural gas orifices installed. To convert:

  • Turn off the gas supply and disconnect the propane hose.
  • Remove the propane orifices from each burner.
  • Install the natural gas hose and regulator from the conversion kit (sold separately).
  • Perform a thorough leak test after conversion.

5. Electronic Ignition Battery:

  • Install one AA battery (not included) into the electronic ignition module.

6. Rotisserie Kit Assembly:

  • Assemble the rotisserie spit and forks according to the separate rotisserie kit instructions.
  • Mount the rotisserie motor onto the designated bracket on the grill.

Operating Instructions

1. Pre-Use Checks:

  • Ensure the grease tray is clean and properly inserted.
  • Check all gas connections for leaks.
  • Open the grill hood before lighting any burners.

2. Lighting the Main Burners:

  • Open the lid.
  • Turn on the gas supply at the propane cylinder or natural gas valve.
  • Push and turn a control knob counter-clockwise to the HIGH position.
  • Press and hold the electronic ignition button until the burner ignites. You should hear a clicking sound.
  • If the burner does not light within 5 seconds, turn the knob to OFF, wait 5 minutes, and repeat the process.
  • Once lit, adjust the flame to the desired cooking temperature.

3. Lighting the Infrared Rear Burner:

  • Open the lid.
  • Turn on the gas supply.
  • Push and turn the infrared burner control knob counter-clockwise to the HIGH position.
  • Press and hold the electronic ignition button until the burner ignites.
  • The infrared burner is primarily for rotisserie cooking and operates at a high temperature.

4. Using the Rotisserie:

  • Prepare food on the rotisserie spit, ensuring it is balanced.
  • Insert the spit into the rotisserie motor and support bracket.
  • Plug in the rotisserie motor and turn it on.
  • Light the infrared rear burner as described above.
  • Monitor cooking progress and internal food temperature.

5. Using Cooking Surface Lights and Knob Lights:

  • The grill features two halogen lights for illuminating the cooking surface. Activate them using the dedicated switch.
  • Control knobs illuminate red when on and blue when off, providing visual indication of burner status.

6. Shutting Down the Grill:

  • Turn all burner control knobs to the OFF position.
  • Turn off the gas supply at the propane cylinder or natural gas valve.

Maintenance

Regular maintenance ensures optimal performance and longevity of your grill.

1. Cleaning the Cooking Grids:

  • After each use, while the grill is still warm, brush the cooking grids with a brass-bristle grill brush.
  • For stubborn residue, remove grids and wash with warm, soapy water. Rinse thoroughly and dry.

2. Cleaning the Grease Tray:

  • The full front pull-out grease tray should be cleaned after every few uses, or more frequently depending on cooking frequency and food type.
  • Allow the grill to cool completely. Remove the tray and scrape out accumulated grease and food particles. Wash with warm, soapy water, rinse, and dry.
  • Failure to clean the grease tray can lead to grease fires.

3. Stainless Steel Care:

  • Clean stainless steel surfaces with a mild detergent and warm water. Wipe with the grain of the stainless steel.
  • Avoid abrasive cleaners, steel wool, or harsh chemicals, which can scratch or damage the finish.
  • For best results, use a stainless steel cleaner and polish.

4. Burner Inspection:

  • Periodically inspect the burner ports for blockages (e.g., spider webs, food debris). Use a wire brush or pipe cleaner to clear any obstructions.
  • Ensure the flame tamers/heat plates are clean and free of excessive grease buildup.

5. Weather Cover:

  • Always use the provided water-resistant outdoor weather cover when the grill is not in use to protect it from environmental elements.
