2. Safety Information

WARNING: Failure to follow these instructions can result in serious injury or death.

  • This harness is personal protective equipment (PPE) designed to protect against falls from a height. It must only be used by trained and competent persons, or under the direct supervision of such a person.
  • Always inspect the harness before each use for any signs of damage, wear, or degradation. Do not use a damaged harness.
  • Ensure all components of the fall arrest system (harness, lanyard, anchor point) are compatible and meet relevant safety standards.
  • The harness must be connected to a suitable anchor point capable of withstanding the forces generated during a fall.
  • This product complies with the European standard EN 361 for full body harnesses.
  • After a fall, the harness must be immediately withdrawn from service and destroyed, even if no visible damage is apparent.
  • Regular periodic inspections by a competent person are mandatory, as per national regulations and manufacturer guidelines.

4. Setup and Fitting Instructions

Proper fitting of the harness is critical for safety and comfort. Follow these steps carefully:

  1. Inspect the Harness: Before putting on the harness, perform a thorough visual inspection as described in the "Maintenance and Care" section.
  2. Hold by Dorsal D-Ring: Hold the harness by the dorsal D-ring (back anchor point) to allow the straps to fall into place. Ensure there are no twists in the webbing.
  3. Put on Shoulder Straps: Slip the shoulder straps over your shoulders, as if putting on a jacket. The dorsal D-ring should be centered on your back, between your shoulder blades.
  4. Connect Leg Straps: Bring the leg straps between your legs and connect them to the appropriate buckles. Ensure the straps are not twisted.
  5. Connect Chest Strap: Fasten the chest strap across your chest. It should be positioned approximately mid-chest.
  6. Adjust Straps:
    • Start with the leg straps, tightening them until they are snug but allow for full range of motion. You should be able to slide your flat hand between the strap and your leg.
    • Adjust the shoulder straps to ensure the dorsal D-ring remains centered and the harness feels secure on your torso.
    • Finally, adjust the chest strap to ensure it is snug and keeps the shoulder straps properly positioned.
  7. Verify Fit: The harness should fit snugly without restricting movement or breathing. All buckles should be securely fastened, and excess webbing should be neatly stowed.

5. Operating Instructions (Usage)

Once the harness is correctly fitted, it can be integrated into a fall arrest system.

  • Connecting to a Fall Arrest System:
    • Connect your fall arrest lanyard or retractable lifeline to either the dorsal anchor point (D-ring on the back) or the sternal anchor point (on the chest).
    • The dorsal anchor point is generally preferred for fall arrest as it distributes forces more evenly and allows for a more upright post-fall position.
    • Ensure the connector (carabiner, snap hook) is fully closed and locked.
  • Anchor Point Selection: Always connect to an anchor point that is structurally sound, located above the user, and capable of supporting the required load (minimum 12 kN or 2700 lbs per person).
  • Clearance Requirements: Ensure there is sufficient clearance below the work area to prevent impact with the ground or obstructions in the event of a fall. Calculate fall distance, including lanyard length, deceleration distance, and harness stretch.
  • Suspension Trauma: In the event of a fall, rescue must be initiated immediately to prevent suspension trauma. Users should be trained in self-rescue or assisted rescue procedures.
  • Limitations: This harness is designed for fall arrest. Do not use it for lifting, lowering, or other purposes for which it is not explicitly designed.

6. Maintenance and Care

Proper maintenance extends the life of your harness and ensures its continued safety.

  • Inspection Before Each Use:
    • Check webbing for cuts, fraying, excessive wear, discoloration, or chemical damage.
    • Examine stitching for broken, pulled, or cut threads.
    • Inspect buckles and adjusters for deformation, cracks, corrosion, or proper functioning.
    • Ensure anchor points (D-rings) are free from cracks, deformation, or sharp edges.
  • Cleaning:
    • Hand wash only. Use mild soap and water (max 30°C / 86°F).
    • Rinse thoroughly with clean water.
    • Allow to air dry completely in a shaded, well-ventilated area, away from direct sunlight or heat sources.
    • Do not use harsh chemicals, solvents, or abrasive cleaners.
  • Storage: Store the harness in a cool, dry, clean, and well-ventilated area, away from direct sunlight, extreme temperatures, corrosive substances, and sharp objects.
  • Disposal: The harness must be immediately removed from service and destroyed if it has been subjected to a fall, shows any signs of damage, or if there is any doubt about its integrity.
  • Periodic Inspection: In addition to user inspections, a competent person must perform a detailed inspection at least every 12 months, or more frequently based on usage and environmental conditions.
