5. Installation

The Zomagas ZMS-3976 range hood is designed for under-cabinet mounting and can be configured for either ducted or ductless operation. Hardwire installation is required; a plug is sold separately (Part#ZMS-3976-PC).

5.1. Pre-Installation Steps

  • Ensure power is disconnected at the circuit breaker before beginning installation.
  • Review local building codes and regulations for range hood installation.
  • Gather all necessary tools and additional components (e.g., junction box, ducting if applicable).
  • Determine your ventilation method: ducted (vented to outside) or ductless (recirculating).

5.2. Mounting the Range Hood

  1. Carefully remove the old range hood if applicable.
  2. Position the new range hood under the cabinet. Use the provided mounting accessories to secure it firmly. Ensure it is level and centered over your cooking surface.
  3. For ducted installation, ensure the top 7-inch round duct opening or rectangular rear vent aligns with your existing ductwork. For ductless, no external ducting is required.

5.3. Electrical Connection

  • Connect the range hood's electrical wires to your household wiring. It is strongly recommended to use a junction box (not included) to safely enclose these connections.
  • Ensure all connections are secure and comply with local electrical codes.

6. Setup: Ducted vs. Ductless Configuration

Your Zomagas ZMS-3976 range hood offers flexible installation options:

  • Ducted Mode (Outdoor Venting): This configuration exhausts cooking fumes and odors directly outside your home through existing ductwork (top 7-inch round or rectangular rear vent). This is generally the most effective method for air purification.
  • Ductless Mode (Indoor Venting): If external ducting is not available, the range hood can operate in recirculating mode. The 3-layer aluminum mesh & activated carbon cotton composite filter purifies the air by trapping grease and odors before releasing the cleaned air back into the kitchen.

The product includes a cutout template for adapting to ducted options if needed.

8. Maintenance

Regular maintenance ensures optimal performance and longevity of your range hood.

8.1. Cleaning the Grease Filter

The 3-layer aluminum mesh & activated carbon cotton composite filter is crucial for trapping grease and odors. For optimal performance, it is suggested to replace the filter every 3 to 4 months (Part#ZMS-3976-F).

  • To remove the filter, locate the latch or handle and gently pull it down.
  • Clean the filter with warm, soapy water or place it in a dishwasher.
  • Ensure the filter is completely dry before re-installing.
  • For ductless operation, replace the activated carbon filter as recommended.

8.2. Cleaning the Exterior

Wipe the stainless steel exterior with a soft cloth and a non-abrasive cleaner designed for stainless steel. Avoid harsh chemicals or abrasive pads that could scratch the surface.

9. Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues with your Zomagas range hood, refer to the following common problems and solutions:

  • No Power: Check if the power cord is securely plugged in and if the circuit breaker is tripped. Ensure all electrical connections are properly made.
  • Fan Not Working: Verify that the fan speed rocker button is in the 'I' or 'II' position. Check for any obstructions in the fan blades.
  • Poor Suction: Ensure the grease filter is clean and not clogged. For ducted models, check that the ductwork is clear and free of obstructions. For ductless models, ensure the activated carbon filter is not expired and needs replacement.
  • Light Not Working: Check if the light rocker button is in the 'ON' position. If the LED light is still not working, it may require replacement by a qualified technician.
  • Excessive Noise: Ensure the range hood is securely mounted and all screws are tightened. Check for any loose parts or obstructions in the fan.

If the problem persists after attempting these solutions, please contact Zomagas customer support.
