Battery Installation and Activation
The detector operates on two AA batteries, which are included. To activate the unit, pull the yellow tab located on the back of the detector. This will engage the batteries and power on the device. The green LED indicator should begin to flash, signifying proper operation.

The detector comes with two AA batteries for immediate use. Ensure the battery tab is pulled to activate.
Mounting the Detector
The included mounting bracket allows for easy installation. Choose a suitable location (see Recommended Locations below) and secure the bracket to the wall or ceiling using the provided screws. The detector can then be twisted onto the bracket in any of the four orientations.

The mounting bracket simplifies installation, allowing for quick and secure attachment.
Recommended Locations
For optimal safety, install a combination smoke and carbon monoxide detector on every level of your home and near bedrooms. Avoid placing alarms within 6 feet of cooking appliances or 20 feet of furnaces to prevent nuisance alarms. Refer to the detailed placement guide in the user manual for specific recommendations based on your home's layout and local building codes.

Consult the Home Safety Product Placement Guide for optimal detector positioning throughout your home.
Operating Instructions
LED Indicators
The detector features three LED warning lights that provide visual status updates:
- Green LED: Indicates normal operation.
- Amber LED: Alerts to faulty operation or connection issues.
- Red LED: Signals a smoke, fire, or carbon monoxide event.

Understand the LED indicators for quick status checks of your alarm.
Testing the Alarm
It is recommended to test your alarm weekly to ensure proper operation. Press and hold the test/hush button on the front of the alarm until it sounds. The alarm will emit a series of beeps and voice alerts (if applicable) indicating that both smoke and carbon monoxide detection functions are working correctly.
Smart-Hush Feature
The Smart-Hush button allows you to temporarily silence the alarm for approximately 8 minutes. This feature is useful for silencing nuisance alarms caused by routine cooking or shower steam without compromising safety. After 8 minutes, the alarm will automatically reset.
Maintenance
Battery Replacement
The Kidde Smoke & Carbon Monoxide Detector is designed for a 10-year lifespan, with the included AA batteries typically lasting for the entire duration. When the alarm reaches the end of its life, it will announce, "Replace Alarm!". At this point, the entire unit should be replaced.

The device will alert you when it's time for replacement after its 10-year detection period.
Cleaning Your Alarm
To keep your alarm functioning properly, regularly clean the exterior with a soft, damp cloth. Do not use cleaning solvents or polishes. Avoid painting the alarm, as this can interfere with its sensors. If dust or debris accumulates in the vents, gently vacuum around the openings.
