5. Operating Modes

The NW620 Speedlite Flash offers several operating modes to suit different photographic needs.

5.1 Manual (M) Mode

In Manual mode, you have full control over the flash output. Adjust the power from 1/1 (full power) to 1/256 in 0.1 increment steps using the control dial.

5.2 Multi Flash Mode

Multi flash mode allows the flash to fire multiple times within a single exposure, creating a stroboscopic effect to capture successive movements of a subject in one photograph. You can set the number of flashes (up to 100) and the flash frequency (up to 199Hz).

5.3 S1/S2 Optical Slave Modes

These modes enable the NW620 to be triggered by another flash unit. S1 mode triggers the flash upon detecting the first flash from the master unit. S2 mode ignores the pre-flash of a TTL master flash and triggers on the main flash, making it suitable for use with TTL systems in a slave capacity.

6. Adjustments

6.1 Flash Head Angle

The flash head can be tilted from -7° to 120° and panned 360° (180° left, 180° right). This flexibility allows for bounce flash photography, directing light off ceilings or walls for softer, more natural illumination.

6.2 Manual Zoom

The flash zoom can be manually adjusted from 20mm to 200mm to match the focal length of your lens, ensuring efficient light distribution and coverage.

6.3 Light Modifiers

The NW620 includes a built-in reflector panel and a wide-angle diffuser. The reflector panel can be pulled out to reflect light into the subject's eyes for a natural catchlight, while the wide-angle diffuser helps to soften and spread the light for broader coverage.

7. Maintenance

Proper maintenance ensures the longevity and optimal performance of your Speedlite flash.

  • Cleaning: Use a soft, dry cloth to clean the flash unit. For stubborn dirt, a slightly damp cloth can be used, followed by a dry cloth. Avoid using solvents or abrasive cleaners.
  • Battery Care: Remove batteries if the flash will not be used for an extended period to prevent leakage. Store batteries in a cool, dry place.
  • Storage: Store the flash unit in its protective pouch in a cool, dry environment, away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures.
  • Hot Shoe Contact: Keep the hot shoe contacts clean and free from debris to ensure reliable communication with the camera.
