Setup and Assembly
Your Shark CU512 vacuum comes partially assembled. Follow these steps to complete the setup:
- Insert the wand into the nozzle until it clicks securely.
- Slide the pod onto the wand until it locks into place.
- Attach the hose to the back of the pod by pushing it firmly until it clicks.
- Store the crevice tool on the accessory post located on the side of the wand.
- Wrap the power cord around the cord hooks for neat storage.

Operating Instructions
Before operating, ensure the power cord is fully unwrapped and plugged into a grounded outlet.
Power and Surface Settings:
The power switch and surface selector are located on the top of the main unit. Choose the appropriate setting for your cleaning task:
- Hard Floor: For bare floors and delicate area rugs. The brushroll will not spin in this mode.
- Carpet: For low-pile to high-pile carpets. The brushroll will spin to agitate carpet fibers.
Using Lift-Away Mode:
To use the Lift-Away feature for portable cleaning:
- Press the Lift-Away button on the side of the pod.
- Lift the pod away from the nozzle.
- You can now carry the pod and use the hose with attachments for above-floor cleaning.
- To reattach, simply place the pod back onto the nozzle until it clicks.
Using Attachments:
The included crevice tool can be attached to the end of the hose or the wand for extended reach. This is ideal for cleaning corners, between couch cushions, and other tight spaces.

Maintenance
Regular maintenance ensures optimal performance of your Shark vacuum.
Emptying the Dust Cup:
Empty the dust cup after each use or when debris reaches the MAX FILL line.
- Press the dust cup release latch and lift the dust cup off the pod.
- Hold the dust cup over a trash bin and press the bottom release latch to open the bottom flap.
- Tap gently to empty debris. Close the flap until it clicks.
- If necessary, open the top release latch to access the filter screen and remove any built-up debris.
Cleaning Filters:
Rinse filters regularly to maintain suction power. Rinse with cold water only and allow to air dry completely before reinstalling.
- Pre-Motor Foam & Felt Filters: Rinse every 3 months.
- Post-Motor HEPA Filter: Rinse once a year.
Note: Do not wash any vacuum parts or accessories in a dishwasher.
Troubleshooting
If your vacuum is not performing as expected, consult the following common issues and solutions:
