4. Safety Information

WARNING: Electrical installation should only be performed by qualified personnel. Failure to follow these instructions can result in electric shock, fire, or serious injury.

  • Always disconnect power at the main circuit breaker or fuse box before attempting any installation, maintenance, or repair.
  • Verify that the power is off using a voltage tester before touching any wires.
  • Follow all local and national electrical codes and regulations.
  • Do not install or operate with wet hands or in damp conditions.
  • Ensure proper grounding where required.
  • Do not exceed the specified voltage (230V) or current rating (10A).

5. Setup and Installation

The SIMON 10 Series switch/commutator is designed for straightforward installation. Please ensure you have read and understood the safety information before proceeding.

  1. Disconnect Power: Turn off the power supply to the circuit at the main circuit breaker or fuse box. Confirm power is off with a voltage tester.
  2. Prepare Wiring: Carefully remove the existing switch or cover plate. Identify the live, neutral, and ground wires (if applicable) according to local wiring standards. For a commutator, identify the common wire and the two traveler wires.
  3. Connect Wires: Using a screwdriver, connect the electrical wires to the screw terminals on the back of the SIMON 10 Series mechanism. Ensure all connections are secure and no bare wire strands are exposed. Refer to the wiring diagram below for typical connections.

  7. Attach Frame and Cover: Position the polypropylene frame over the mounted mechanism. The flexible nature of the frame aids in easier installation. Snap the cover plate onto the frame until it is securely in place.
  8. Restore Power: Once installation is complete and all components are securely fastened, restore power to the circuit from the main circuit breaker.
  9. Test Functionality: Test the switch/commutator to ensure it operates correctly.

6. Operating Instructions

The SIMON 10 Series switch/commutator is operated by pressing the rocker switch.

  • As a Standard Switch: When wired as a single-pole switch, pressing the top or bottom of the rocker will toggle the connected light or device ON or OFF.
  • As a Commutator (Two-Way Switch): When wired in a two-way configuration, pressing the rocker will alternate the circuit connection, allowing you to control a single light fixture from two separate locations. For example, one switch at the bottom of a staircase and another at the top.

7. Maintenance

The SIMON 10 Series switch/commutator requires minimal maintenance.

  • Cleaning: To clean the surface of the switch, ensure power is disconnected at the circuit breaker. Use a soft, dry, or slightly damp cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners, solvents, or harsh chemicals, as these can damage the finish.
  • Inspection: Periodically inspect the switch for any signs of damage, loose connections, or discoloration. If any issues are observed, disconnect power and consult a qualified electrician.
