Operation
The Casio FX-82DE CW features a Natural Display, showing mathematical expressions as they appear in textbooks. Use the navigation pad to move the cursor within expressions.
Basic Calculations
- Arithmetic Operations: Use [+], [-], [×], [÷] for addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division. Press [EXE] to get the result.
- Negative Numbers: Use the [(-)] key for negative signs, not the subtraction key.
- Fractions: Press the [a b/c] key (represented by a fraction icon) to input fractions. For mixed numbers, input the integer, then the fraction key, then the numerator, then the fraction key, then the denominator.
- Powers and Roots: Use [x²] for squares, [√] for square roots, and [x^] for other powers.
Scientific Functions
- Trigonometric Functions: Use [sin], [cos], [tan]. For inverse functions, press [SHIFT] then the respective function key ([sin⁻¹], [cos⁻¹], [tan⁻¹]).
- Logarithms: Use [log] for base-10 logarithm and [ln] for natural logarithm.
- Angle Units: To change between Degrees (DEG), Radians (RAD), and Gradians (GRAD), press [SHIFT] then [MENU] (SETUP), navigate to "Angle Unit", and select your desired unit.
- Constants: Access mathematical constants like [π] (SHIFT + x10^x).
Memory Functions
- Store Value: To store a value, input the value, press [STO] (SHIFT + RCL), then press the key corresponding to the desired variable (A, B, C, D, E, F, X, Y, M).
- Recall Value: To recall a stored value, press [RCL], then the key corresponding to the variable.
Special Features
- QR Code Function: To generate a QR code for calculation results or graphs, press [SHIFT] then [QR]. Scan the code with a smartphone or tablet to visualize the data.
- Maths Box: This feature allows simulation of random experiments. Press [TOOLS], then select "Maths Box" to access coin toss or dice roll simulations.
- Statistics Mode: To perform statistical calculations, press [MENU], then select "Statistics". Input your data and use the options to calculate sums, standard deviations, and perform regression analysis.
- Verify Function: Use the "Verify" function to check if an equation is true or false.
- Table Function: Generate a table of values for one or two functions (f(x) and g(x)). Press [MENU], then select "Table".
Maintenance
Cleaning
To clean the calculator, wipe it with a soft, dry cloth. For stubborn dirt, slightly dampen the cloth with water and a mild detergent, then wipe dry immediately. Do not use strong solvents, abrasive cleaners, or spray cleaners directly onto the calculator.
Battery Replacement
When the display becomes dim or calculations are erratic, it is time to replace the battery. Follow the battery installation steps outlined in the Setup section. Always use a new AAA (LR03) battery. Dispose of old batteries according to local regulations.
Storage
Store the calculator in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures. If storing for an extended period, it is recommended to remove the battery to prevent leakage.
Troubleshooting
| Problem | Solution |
|---|---|
| Calculator does not turn on. | Check battery installation. Ensure the battery is new and correctly inserted. |
| Display is dim or blank. | Adjust display contrast (see Setup section). Replace battery if necessary. |
| Incorrect calculation results. | Check input values and calculation mode (e.g., angle units). Perform a calculator reset. |
| Calculator freezes or behaves erratically. | Press the [AC] button. If the issue persists, perform a full reset by pressing [SHIFT] then [9] (CLR), then select "All" and confirm. Note: This will clear all memory and settings. |
| QR code not scanning. | Ensure good lighting and a stable camera. The QR code function requires a compatible smartphone app. |
