Setup and First Use

Before brewing your first pot of coffee, it is important to clean the coffee maker thoroughly.

  1. Unpack: Carefully remove all packaging materials and inspect the coffee maker for any damage.
  2. Clean Components: Wash the glass carafe, lid, and removable filter basket in warm, soapy water. Rinse thoroughly and dry.
  3. Initial Rinse: Fill the water reservoir with clean water up to the 12-cup mark. Place the empty filter basket (without coffee or filter) into its position and close the lid.
  4. Run Cycle: Place the empty carafe on the warming plate. Plug the coffee maker into a standard electrical outlet and press the On/Off switch. Allow the full cycle to complete, then discard the water from the carafe.
  5. Repeat: Repeat the initial rinse cycle once more with fresh water to ensure all manufacturing residues are removed.
  6. Your coffee maker is now ready for use.

Operating Instructions

Follow these steps to brew a fresh pot of coffee:

  1. Fill Water Reservoir: Open the top lid and fill the water reservoir with cold, fresh water to the desired level, using the water level window as a guide. Do not exceed the 12-cup maximum fill line.
  2. Add Coffee Grounds: Place a standard basket-style paper filter (or the reusable filter, if applicable) into the removable filter basket. Add the desired amount of ground coffee. A general guideline is one tablespoon of ground coffee per cup, but adjust to your taste.
  3. Position Filter Basket: Ensure the filter basket is securely in place. Close the top lid.
  4. Place Carafe: Place the empty glass carafe with its lid on the warming plate, ensuring it is centered to activate the drip-stop mechanism.
  5. Start Brewing: Plug the power cord into a standard electrical outlet. Press the On/Off switch. The indicator light will illuminate, signifying that the brewing process has begun.
  6. Serving: Once brewing is complete, the coffee maker will automatically switch to the "keep warm" function. The warming plate will keep the coffee hot.
  7. Turn Off: For best coffee flavor, do not keep coffee on the warming plate for extended periods. Always turn off the coffee maker by pressing the On/Off switch and unplugging it when the carafe is empty or when you are finished serving.

Note: The drip-stop feature allows you to temporarily remove the carafe during brewing to pour a cup. However, do not remove the carafe for more than 30 seconds to prevent overflow from the filter basket.

Maintenance and Cleaning

Regular cleaning ensures optimal performance and extends the life of your coffee maker.

Daily Cleaning:

  • Always unplug the coffee maker and allow it to cool completely before cleaning.
  • Discard used coffee grounds and paper filter (if used).
  • Wash the carafe, carafe lid, and removable filter basket in warm, soapy water. These parts are also top-rack dishwasher safe.
  • Wipe the exterior of the coffee maker with a soft, damp cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners or scouring pads.
  • Do not immerse the main unit, cord, or plug in water or any other liquid.

Decalcification (Descaling):

Mineral deposits (calcium) from water can build up in your coffee maker and affect its performance. Decalcify your coffee maker every 2-3 months, or more frequently if you have hard water.

  1. Fill the water reservoir with a mixture of white vinegar and cold water. A common ratio is 1 part vinegar to 2 parts water. For a 12-cup coffee maker, you might use 4 cups of vinegar and 8 cups of water.
  2. Place a paper filter in the filter basket (no coffee).
  3. Place the empty carafe on the warming plate.
  4. Turn on the coffee maker and allow half of the vinegar solution to brew through.
  5. Turn off the coffee maker and let it stand for at least 15 minutes to allow the solution to work on the deposits.
  6. Turn the coffee maker back on and allow the remaining solution to brew through.
  7. Discard the vinegar solution from the carafe.
  8. Run 2-3 full cycles with clean, cold water to rinse out any remaining vinegar taste or smell.
