Assembly Instructions

Assembly typically requires two people and approximately 1.5 hours. Follow the included diagrams carefully. Do not overtighten screws.

  1. Unpack and Identify Parts: Lay out all panels and hardware. Compare them with the parts list in the separate assembly guide to ensure everything is present.
  2. Attach Casters: Secure the five casters to the bottom panel of the cabinet. Ensure the two lockable casters are positioned at the front. The center caster helps prevent tipping.
  3. Assemble Cabinet Frame: Connect the side panels to the bottom and top panels using the provided hardware. Ensure all connections are secure.
  4. Install Drawer Slides: Attach the drawer slides to the inner sides of the cabinet frame and to the drawer side panels. Ensure they are aligned correctly for smooth operation.
  5. Assemble Drawers: Construct each drawer by connecting the front, back, and side panels. Insert the drawer bottom.
  6. Attach Handles and Locks: Secure the metal handles to the front of each drawer. Install the lock mechanisms into the designated holes on the drawer fronts.

Setup

Once assembled, position the file cabinet on a flat, stable surface. Ensure there is adequate space around the cabinet for drawers to open fully without obstruction.

Using the Casters

The cabinet is equipped with five casters for easy mobility. Two front casters are lockable. To move the cabinet, unlock the front casters. To keep the cabinet stationary, engage the brakes on the front casters by pressing down on the locking lever. The central caster provides additional stability and helps prevent tipping when drawers are extended.

Operating Instructions

Drawer Operation

Each of the three drawers features full-extension slides for easy access to contents. Pull the metal handle to open a drawer and push it firmly to close. The large bottom drawer is designed to accommodate letter, A4, and legal-size hanging file folders.

General Care

  • Periodically check all screws and hardware to ensure they remain tight. Retighten as necessary.
  • Avoid exposing the cabinet to direct sunlight or extreme temperature changes, which can cause warping or fading.
  • Do not place hot items directly on the cabinet surface without protection.

Troubleshooting

  • Drawers not sliding smoothly: Check that the drawer slides are correctly installed and free of obstructions. Ensure all screws on the slides are tightened.
  • Cabinet feels unstable or tips: Verify that the cabinet is on a level surface. Ensure the anti-tip center caster is properly installed and functioning. Always lock the front casters when stationary. Avoid opening multiple drawers simultaneously, especially the top ones, when the cabinet is not against a wall or otherwise secured. Distribute weight evenly, placing heavier items in lower drawers.
  • Lock not working: Ensure you are using the correct key for the specific drawer lock. Check for any debris or obstruction in the lock mechanism.
  • Missing or damaged parts: Refer to the package contents list. If parts are missing or damaged upon arrival, contact Karl home customer service for assistance.
