Preethi Triply Outer Lid Pressure Cooker Induction Base, 1.5 Litres User Manual

Model: 1.5Ltr

Introduction

Welcome to the user manual for your new Preethi Triply Outer Lid Pressure Cooker. This manual provides important information on the safe and efficient use, maintenance, and care of your pressure cooker. Please read it thoroughly before first use and retain it for future reference.

Important Safety Instructions

  • Read all instructions carefully before using the pressure cooker.
  • Do not fill the cooker more than two-thirds full. For foods that expand, such as rice or dried vegetables, do not fill more than half full. Overfilling can cause clogging of the vent pipe and development of excess pressure.
  • Ensure the lid is properly closed and locked before heating.
  • Never force the lid open. Ensure all pressure has been released before attempting to open the lid.
  • Do not touch hot surfaces. Use handles or oven mitts.
  • Keep children away from the pressure cooker during use.
  • Do not use the pressure cooker for purposes other than its intended use.
  • Regularly inspect the gasket, safety valve, and vent tube for wear or damage. Replace worn parts immediately.
  • Use only genuine Preethi spare parts.
  • This pressure cooker is designed for domestic use only.

Product Overview

The Preethi Triply Outer Lid Pressure Cooker is designed for efficient and safe cooking. It features a triply stainless steel construction for even heating and durability, and an induction-compatible base.

Components:

  • Cooker Body: The main vessel for cooking.
  • Outer Lid: Secures onto the cooker body to create a pressure seal.
  • Main Handle: For safe handling of the cooker body.
  • Auxiliary Handle: Provides additional grip for lifting.
  • Pressure Regulating Weight/Whistle: Controls the pressure inside the cooker.
  • Safety Valve: A secondary safety device to release excess pressure if the vent tube is blocked.
  • Gasket: Creates an airtight seal between the lid and the body.
  • Vent Tube: Allows steam to escape and indicates pressure build-up.

The cooker features a 4-way safety mechanism including a GRS & GRVS, vent tube & whistle, spring-loaded safety valve, and a lead-free Bismuth safety plug.

Key Features

The Preethi Triply Outer Lid Pressure Cooker incorporates several design elements for performance and safety:

  • Triply Stainless Steel: Layer 1 (304 food grade S.S.), Layer 2 (Aluminium for quick heating), Layer 3 (430 high grade S.S. for better heat conductivity). This construction ensures even heat distribution and durability.
  • Virgin Nitrile Gasket: Ensures a zero-odor cooking experience and a reliable seal.
  • S.S. 304 Valve & Whistle: Made from food-grade material, highly durable for consistent pressure regulation.
  • Bismuth Valve: A lead-free valve designed for enhanced safety.
  • Specially Designed Flame Protected Handle: Allows for easy opening and closing while protecting hands from heat.
  • Induction Compatible Base: Suitable for use on induction cooktops as well as gas and electric stoves.

Setup

Before first use, wash the pressure cooker body, lid, and gasket with warm soapy water. Rinse thoroughly and dry. Ensure the vent tube is clear and the safety valve is clean.

Gasket Installation:

  1. Place the gasket evenly around the inner rim of the lid.
  2. Ensure it is seated correctly and not twisted.

Pressure Regulating Weight Installation:

  1. After placing the lid on the cooker body, align the pressure regulating weight over the vent tube on the lid.
  2. Place it gently but firmly. Do not force it.

Operating Instructions

1. Filling the Cooker:

Add food and liquid to the cooker. Do not fill more than two-thirds full. For foods that expand (e.g., rice, lentils), do not fill more than half full. Ensure there is always sufficient liquid to generate steam.

2. Closing the Lid:

  1. Place the lid on the cooker body, aligning the handles.
  2. Rotate the lid clockwise until it locks securely into place. Ensure the gasket is properly seated and no steam can escape from the sides.

3. Heating:

Place the cooker on a heat source (gas, electric, or induction). Start with high heat until steam begins to escape steadily from the vent tube. Once steam is steady, place the pressure regulating weight on the vent tube.

4. Pressure Cooking:

Once the pressure regulating weight is in place, the cooker will build pressure. The whistle will begin to sound at regular intervals, indicating that the desired pressure has been reached. Reduce the heat to maintain a steady pressure, allowing the whistle to sound less frequently or just a gentle hiss. Cook for the recommended time for your recipe.

5. Releasing Pressure:

There are two methods to release pressure:

  • Natural Release: Remove the cooker from the heat source and allow it to cool down naturally. The pressure will gradually decrease. This method is suitable for foods that benefit from continued cooking, such as stews or beans.
  • Quick Release (under cold water): For faster pressure release, carefully place the cooker under cold running water, avoiding the pressure regulating weight and vent tube, until the pressure drops. Never attempt to open the lid until all pressure has been released.

6. Opening the Lid:

Once all pressure has been released (the safety valve indicator will drop, and no steam will escape when the pressure regulating weight is gently nudged), remove the pressure regulating weight. Rotate the lid counter-clockwise and lift it off.

Maintenance and Cleaning

Proper maintenance ensures the longevity and safe operation of your pressure cooker.

After Each Use:

  1. Allow the cooker to cool completely before cleaning.
  2. Wash the cooker body, lid, and gasket with warm soapy water. Use a non-abrasive sponge or cloth.
  3. Rinse thoroughly and dry all parts completely to prevent water spots and corrosion.
  4. Ensure the vent tube is clear by holding the lid up to a light source and checking for obstructions. Use a small brush if necessary.
  5. Clean the pressure regulating weight and safety valve to ensure they are free from food particles.

Storage:

Store the pressure cooker with the lid inverted on the body or slightly ajar to allow air circulation and prevent odors. Store the gasket separately or loosely on the lid to prolong its life.

Periodic Inspection:

Regularly check the gasket for cracks, tears, or hardening. Replace it if any damage is observed. Inspect the safety valve and vent tube for any blockages or signs of wear. Replace any damaged parts with genuine Preethi spare parts.

Troubleshooting

ProblemPossible CauseSolution
Steam leaking from lid rimGasket improperly seated, worn, or damaged; lid not closed properly; food particles on rim.Re-seat gasket, replace if damaged. Ensure lid is closed and locked correctly. Clean rim and lid.
Pressure not building upInsufficient liquid; vent tube blocked; gasket leak; heat too low.Add more liquid. Clear vent tube. Check and replace gasket if necessary. Increase heat.
Safety valve releases steamOverfilling; vent tube blocked; excessive heat.Reduce contents. Clear vent tube. Reduce heat. This is a safety feature, ensure the cause is addressed.
Lid stuck after cookingPressure not fully released.Do not force. Ensure all pressure is released naturally or by quick release method before attempting to open.
