1. Introduction
The Microlife BP B3 AFIB is an automatic arm blood pressure monitor designed for accurate and reliable measurement of blood pressure at home. This device incorporates Microlife's unique AFIBsens technology, which detects Atrial Fibrillation (AFIB) during blood pressure measurement, allowing for early detection and management of this condition. It also features MAM (Microlife Average Mode) for taking three measurements in quick succession and averaging them for a more reliable result. This manual provides essential information for the safe and effective use of your blood pressure monitor.

2. Important Safety Information
Please read this instruction manual carefully before using the device. Keep it in a safe place for future reference. This device is intended for measuring blood pressure and pulse rate in adults. It is not intended for use on infants or children. Consult your doctor before using this device if you have any medical conditions or are taking medication.
- Do not self-diagnose or self-medicate based on measurements. Always consult a healthcare professional.
- Do not use the device in a moving vehicle or on an airplane.
- Keep the device away from strong electromagnetic fields, such as mobile phones or microwave ovens.
- Do not disassemble or attempt to repair the device yourself. Contact authorized service personnel.
- Store the device and cuff in a dry place, away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures.
- Ensure the cuff size is appropriate for your arm circumference. An incorrect cuff size can lead to inaccurate readings.

5. Operating Instructions
5.1. Before Taking a Measurement
- Avoid eating, smoking, or exercising for at least 30 minutes before measurement.
- Rest for 5-10 minutes in a quiet environment before taking a measurement.
- Ensure your bladder is empty.
- Sit comfortably with your back supported and feet flat on the floor. Do not cross your legs.
- Place your arm on a table so the cuff is at heart level.
5.2. Cuff Placement
Proper cuff placement is crucial for accurate readings.
- Remove tight-fitting clothing from your upper arm.
- Slide the cuff onto your left upper arm so the air tube points towards your forearm.
- The bottom edge of the cuff should be approximately 2-3 cm above your elbow joint.
- Ensure the artery mark on the cuff (if present) is aligned with your brachial artery (inner side of your arm).
- Wrap the cuff snugly around your arm, but not too tightly. You should be able to insert two fingers between the cuff and your arm.

5.3. Taking a Measurement (Standard Mode)
- With the cuff correctly placed and you in a relaxed position, press the ON/OFF button (usually marked with a power symbol).
- The cuff will automatically inflate. Remain still and do not talk during the measurement.
- Once the measurement is complete, the cuff will deflate, and your systolic pressure, diastolic pressure, and pulse rate will be displayed.
- If AFIB is detected, a specific symbol will appear on the display.
- Press the ON/OFF button again to turn off the device, or it will automatically shut off after a period of inactivity.
5.4. MAM (Microlife Average Mode)
The MAM mode automatically performs three measurements in quick succession and averages the results. This provides a more reliable blood pressure value, as recommended by doctors.
- To activate MAM mode, press the MAM button (if available) or ensure the MAM symbol is displayed when turning on the device.
- The device will take three measurements with short pauses in between. Remain still and quiet throughout the entire process.
- After the third measurement, the averaged result will be displayed.
5.5. AFIBsens Technology (Atrial Fibrillation Detection)
The Microlife BP B3 AFIB is equipped with AFIBsens technology, which can detect Atrial Fibrillation during blood pressure measurement. If the AFIB symbol appears on the display after a measurement, it indicates that Atrial Fibrillation may have been detected. It is important to note that this device does not diagnose AFIB. If the AFIB symbol appears repeatedly, consult your doctor for further evaluation.
6. Data Management (Memory Function)
The device automatically stores measurement results in its memory. To view past measurements:
- With the device off, press the M button (Memory button).
- The display will show the most recent measurement.
- Press the M button repeatedly to scroll through older measurements.
Consult the full manual for details on clearing memory or advanced memory functions if available.
7. Maintenance and Care
7.1. Cleaning the Device and Cuff
- Clean the monitor unit and cuff with a soft, dry cloth.
- If necessary, use a cloth lightly dampened with water or a mild cleaning solution. Do not use abrasive cleaners or immerse the device in water.
- Do not wash the cuff. If the cuff becomes soiled, wipe it gently with a damp cloth.
7.2. Storage
- Store the device and cuff in the provided storage bag or a clean, dry place.
- Avoid storing in direct sunlight, extreme temperatures, or high humidity.
- If the device will not be used for an extended period, remove the batteries to prevent leakage.
8. Troubleshooting
This section addresses common issues you might encounter with your blood pressure monitor.
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| Device does not turn on. | Batteries are dead or incorrectly inserted. | Replace batteries with new ones, ensuring correct polarity. |
| "ERR" or "E" symbol on display. | Cuff not properly connected, movement during measurement, or irregular pulse. | Check cuff connection. Remain still and quiet. If persistent, consult a doctor. |
| Inaccurate readings. | Incorrect cuff placement, wrong cuff size, or not resting before measurement. | Ensure correct cuff placement and size. Rest for 5-10 minutes before measuring. |
| AFIB symbol appears frequently. | Possible detection of Atrial Fibrillation. | This is an indication, not a diagnosis. Consult your doctor for evaluation. |
