1. Introduction

The OREI BK-401 is an advanced 8K 4x1 HDMI 2.1 Switch designed to connect up to four HDMI source devices to a single HDMI display. This switcher supports high-resolution video up to 8K@60Hz and 4K@120Hz, ensuring optimal performance for modern entertainment systems and gaming consoles. It is compliant with HDMI 2.1 and HDCP 2.3/2.2/1.4 standards, and supports various advanced video features including HDR10+, HDR10, Dolby Vision, HLG, Variable Refresh Rate (VRR), Auto Low-Latency Mode (ALLM), and Fast VActive (FVA) function with a 48Gbps video bandwidth.

This manual provides detailed instructions for setting up, operating, and maintaining your OREI BK-401 HDMI Switch.

2. Package Contents

3.1 Front Panel

  • Power Button: Press to turn the unit on or off.
  • Input Indicators (1-4, AUTO): LEDs illuminate to show the currently selected HDMI input or if Auto-switching is active.
  • IR Receiver: Receives signals from the included IR remote control. Ensure a clear line of sight.
  • INPUT Button: Press to manually cycle through the HDMI input sources.

3.2 Rear Panel

  • DC 5V: Power input port. Connect the included 5V/1A power adapter here.
  • INPUT 1-4: HDMI input ports. Connect your HDMI source devices (e.g., PS5, Xbox, Blu-ray player) to these ports.

3.3 Side Panel (HDMI Output)

The HDMI output port is located on one of the side panels of the device.

  • HDMI OUT: Connect this port to your HDMI display (e.g., TV, projector, monitor).

3.4 IR Remote Control

  • IN1, IN2, IN3, IN4 Buttons: Press to directly select the corresponding HDMI input source.
  • Cycle Button: Press to switch to the next available HDMI input sequentially.

4. Setup Instructions

Follow these steps to connect your OREI BK-401 HDMI Switch:

  1. Power Off Devices: Ensure all HDMI source devices (e.g., gaming consoles, Blu-ray players) and your display (TV, monitor) are powered off before making any connections.
  2. Connect HDMI Sources: Connect up to four HDMI source devices to the HDMI INPUT 1, INPUT 2, INPUT 3, and INPUT 4 ports on the rear panel of the BK-401 switch using high-quality HDMI cables.
  3. Connect to Display: Connect one end of an HDMI cable to the HDMI OUT port on the side of the BK-401 switch and the other end to an HDMI input port on your display.
  4. Connect Power: Plug the included 5V/1A power adapter into the DC 5V port on the rear panel of the BK-401 switch, then plug the adapter into a power outlet. The power LED on the front panel should illuminate.
  5. Power On Devices: Power on your HDMI display, then power on your HDMI source devices.

For cable lengths exceeding 25 feet, OREI recommends using fiber optic HDMI cables to maintain signal integrity and performance, especially for 8K resolutions.

5. Operating Instructions

The OREI BK-401 HDMI Switch offers both manual and automatic switching options.

5.1 Manual Switching

  • Using the Front Panel Button: Press the "INPUT" button on the front panel of the BK-401 switch to cycle through the connected HDMI input sources (Input 1 → Input 2 → Input 3 → Input 4 → Input 1...). The corresponding LED indicator will light up.
  • Using the IR Remote Control:
    • Press the specific input button (IN1, IN2, IN3, or IN4) on the remote control to directly select the desired HDMI source.
    • Alternatively, press the "Cycle" button on the remote to switch to the next active input.

5.2 Automatic Switching

The BK-401 switch supports automatic input detection. When a new HDMI source device is powered on or connected, the switch will automatically detect the signal and switch to that input. If the currently active source is powered off, the switch will attempt to find the next active input.

The auto-switching feature may vary in responsiveness depending on the connected source devices and their power-on/off behavior.

6. Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues with your OREI BK-401 HDMI Switch, please refer to the following common problems and solutions:

  • HDMI cable issue.
  • Check audio output settings on your source device and input settings on your display.
  • Ensure HDMI cables are fully seated.
Remote control not working.
  • Battery depleted.
  • Obstruction between remote and switch.
  • Remote not pointed correctly.
  • Replace the remote control battery.
  • Ensure a clear line of sight between the remote and the IR receiver on the switch.
  • Point the remote directly at the switch's IR receiver.
Auto-switching is inconsistent.
  • Source device behavior.
  • Multiple sources active simultaneously.
  • Some devices may not send a consistent "active" signal. Try manually switching.
  • Ensure only one source is active at a time for reliable auto-switching.
