Operating Instructions

Brewing Coffee

  1. Add Water: Fill the coffee pot with cold water to the desired level. The pot has a 4-cup (32 oz) capacity. Ensure water level is below the bottom of the filter basket.
  2. Add Coffee Grounds: Place your preferred amount of ground coffee into the filter basket. For best results, use a coarse grind suitable for percolators. Do not overfill the basket.
  3. Secure Lid: Place the lid firmly onto the coffee pot.
  4. Connect Power: Attach the removable power cord to the base of the percolator, then plug it into a standard 120V AC electrical outlet.
  5. Start Brewing: Press the power button on the base. The indicator light will illuminate, signaling that brewing has begun.
  6. Percolation Process: Water will heat and be pumped up through the tube, showering over the coffee grounds. This process typically takes 7-10 minutes for a full pot. You can observe the percolation through the clear knob on the lid.
  7. Keep Warm Function: Once brewing is complete, the percolator automatically switches to a "keep warm" function, maintaining the coffee at an ideal serving temperature (up to 170°F). The indicator light will remain on.
  8. Serve: Carefully remove the percolator from its base for serving. Pour slowly to avoid drips.

Cleaning and Maintenance

Regular cleaning ensures optimal performance and longevity of your percolator.

  1. Unplug and Cool: Always unplug the percolator and allow it to cool completely before cleaning.
  2. Disassemble: Remove the lid, filter basket, and pump tube. Discard used coffee grounds.
  3. Hand Wash Components: Wash the lid, filter basket, and pump tube in warm, soapy water. Rinse thoroughly.
  4. Clean Pot Interior: Wash the interior of the coffee pot with warm, soapy water and a soft cloth or sponge. Rinse thoroughly.
  5. Clean Exterior: Wipe the exterior of the pot and the electric base with a damp cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners or scouring pads.
  6. Do NOT Immerse: Never immerse the electric base or the entire coffee pot in water or any other liquid. This can cause electrical shock or damage the appliance.
  7. Dry Thoroughly: Ensure all parts are completely dry before reassembling or storing.

Troubleshooting

ProblemPossible CauseSolution
Coffee is too weak or too strong.Incorrect coffee-to-water ratio; grind size too fine/coarse.Adjust the amount of coffee grounds or water. Experiment with a coarser grind for stronger coffee, or finer for weaker (though too fine can lead to grounds in coffee).
Coffee grounds in brewed coffee.Coffee grind is too fine; filter basket not seated correctly.Use a coarser grind of coffee. Ensure the filter basket is properly seated on the pump tube. Consider using a paper filter if desired (not included).
Percolator not brewing. Not plugged in; power button not pressed; insufficient water.Check if the power cord is securely plugged into both the percolator and the outlet. Ensure the power button is pressed and the indicator light is on. Verify there is enough water in the pot.
Coffee tastes burnt or overheated.Coffee left on "keep warm" for too long.Serve coffee promptly after brewing is complete. While the keep warm function is designed to maintain temperature, prolonged heating can affect flavor.
