3. Setup
- Unpacking: Carefully remove the steamer insert from its packaging.
- Initial Cleaning: Before first use, wash the steamer insert thoroughly with warm soapy water and rinse completely. Dry it immediately to prevent water spots.
- Compatibility Check: Ensure you are using the steamer insert with a WMF Iconic roasting dish or another pot of compatible 28 cm diameter.
4. Operating Instructions
- Prepare the Pot: Fill your compatible 28 cm pot or roasting dish with water. The water level should be below the bottom of the steamer insert when placed inside.
- Insert Food: Place the food you wish to steam (e.g., vegetables, fish, dumplings) into the steamer insert. Do not overcrowd the insert to allow for proper steam circulation.
- Position the Insert: Carefully place the steamer insert into the pot, ensuring it rests securely above the water level.
- Cover and Heat: Cover the pot with a lid (if available and compatible). Place the pot on a stovetop burner set to medium-high heat. Bring the water to a boil to generate steam.
- Steaming Process: Reduce heat to maintain a steady simmer, allowing the steam to cook the food. Cooking times will vary depending on the food type and quantity.
- Remove Food: Once cooked, carefully remove the steamer insert from the pot using oven mitts or heat-resistant gloves, as the handles may be hot.
- Serving: Transfer the steamed food to a serving dish.
Note on Handles: The hollow handles are designed to stay cooler during stovetop use. However, they will become hot if the insert is used in an oven or left on a hot stovetop for extended periods. Always use appropriate hand protection when handling hot cookware.
5. Maintenance and Cleaning
Proper care and cleaning will extend the life and maintain the appearance of your WMF Iconic Steamer Insert.
- After Each Use: Allow the insert to cool completely before cleaning.
- Hand Washing: Wash with warm soapy water and a soft sponge or cloth. Avoid abrasive cleaners or scouring pads, which can scratch the stainless steel surface. Rinse thoroughly and dry immediately to prevent water spots and maintain shine.
- Dishwasher Cleaning: The steamer insert is dishwasher-safe. Place it securely in the dishwasher, ensuring it does not block spray arms. Use a standard dishwasher detergent. Remove promptly after the cycle to prevent water spots.
- Stubborn Stains: For stubborn food residues, soak the insert in warm soapy water before cleaning. A paste of baking soda and water can be used for gentle scrubbing on tough spots, followed by thorough rinsing.
- Storage: Store the clean, dry steamer insert in a cabinet or drawer, protecting it from scratches.
