1. Introduction
The FLIR Scout TKx is a compact thermal vision monocular designed for outdoor observation in low-light and nighttime conditions. This device allows users to detect heat signatures from people, objects, and animals at distances exceeding 90 meters (100 yards). It features simple operation, including the ability to capture still images and record video.

3. Device Components
Familiarize yourself with the key components of your FLIR Scout TKx monocular:

- Objective Lens: Captures thermal radiation.
- Eyepiece: For viewing the thermal image.
- Power Button: Turns the device on/off.
- Mode Button: Cycles through various display modes and color palettes.

- USB Port: For charging and connecting to a computer.
4. Initial Setup
4.1. Charging the Battery
The FLIR Scout TKx is powered by an internal Lithium Ion battery. Before first use, fully charge the device.
- Connect the included USB cable to the device's USB port.
- Connect the other end of the USB cable to a standard USB power adapter (not included) or a computer's USB port.
- The charging indicator light will illuminate. Charging is complete when the indicator changes color or turns off (refer to device display for exact status).
- A full charge provides approximately 8 hours of continuous operation.
4.2. Powering On/Off
- To power on, press and hold the Power button until the FLIR logo appears on the display.
- To power off, press and hold the Power button until the device shuts down.
5. Operation
5.1. Viewing Thermal Images
Once powered on, look through the eyepiece to view the thermal image. The device automatically adjusts for optimal viewing.

5.2. Color Palettes
The Scout TKx offers multiple color palettes to enhance thermal image interpretation. Press the Mode button to cycle through available palettes. These palettes can highlight different temperature ranges or specific heat signatures.

Common palettes include:
- Black Hot: Hot objects appear black.
- White Hot: Hot objects appear white.
- InstAlert™: Highlights the hottest objects in red or other distinct colors against a grayscale background.
- Iron: A common palette using a spectrum of colors to represent temperature differences.
- Other palettes may include Lava, Rain, and Arctic, each offering a different visual representation of thermal data.
5.3. Image and Video Capture
The device can capture still images and record video directly to its internal memory.
- Image Capture: Briefly press the Capture button to take a still image.
- Video Capture: Press and hold the Capture button to start recording video. Press again to stop recording.
5.4. Data Transfer
To transfer captured images and videos to a computer:
- Connect the device to your computer using the USB cable.
- The device will appear as a removable storage device.
- Navigate to the appropriate folder to access your files.
6. Maintenance
6.1. Cleaning
- Device Body: Wipe with a soft, damp cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents.
- Lens: Use a lens cleaning cloth or a soft, lint-free cloth specifically designed for optics. Avoid touching the lens surface with fingers.
6.2. Storage
Store the device in a cool, dry place when not in use. Ensure the lens cap is in place to protect the objective lens.
