4. Setup

5. Operation

5.1 Powering On/Off

• To Power On: Press the 'POWER/CALIBRATION' button. The display screen will show 'Ready' when the unit is powered on and ready for calibration or testing.
• To Power Off: Press and hold the 'POWER/CALIBRATION' button until the tester begins to power down.

5.2 Calibration

Calibration is essential for accurate readings. Always calibrate the tester with a known 18K yellow gold piece before testing.

1. Ensure the analyzer is powered on and the display shows 'Ready'.
2. Using the provided gold file, gently file a small area on your 18K yellow gold calibration piece. This removes any surface dirt or plating. Always file away from the tester to prevent contamination of the testing plate.
3. Place the filed 18K yellow gold calibration piece on the testing plate with the filed side facing up.
4. Press the 'POWER/CALIBRATION' button. The display will show 'Touch Pen to 18K Yellow Gold'.
5. Touch the tip of the pen probe to the filed area of the 18K yellow gold piece. Hold until the display shows 'Done'. The analyzer is now calibrated and ready to test.

5.3 Testing Gold and Platinum

To test a metal item:

1. Ensure the analyzer is calibrated and the display shows 'Ready'.
2. Using the gold file, gently file a small, inconspicuous area on the item you wish to test. This is crucial to penetrate any plating or surface contaminants. Always file away from the tester.
3. Place the filed item on the testing plate.
4. Touch the tip of the pen probe to the filed area of the item.
5. Observe the LED display. The analyzer will indicate the karat value (6K, 8K, 10K, 14K, 18K, 22K, 24K) for gold or 'PT' for platinum. If the item is not gold or platinum, it will display 'NA' (Not Applicable).

6. Maintenance

• Pen Probe Care: The pen probe is saline-based. Ensure the tip is clean and free from debris. Replace the pen probe when it no longer provides consistent readings or is visibly worn.
