Setup and First Use

Before using your Yabano Stovetop Espresso Maker for the first time, follow these steps:

  1. Disassemble all parts of the moka pot.
  2. Wash all components thoroughly with warm water. Do not use soap, as it can leave residue that affects coffee flavor and can damage the aluminum.
  3. Reassemble the unit.
  4. Perform a test brew using only water. Discard this water. This helps to clean the internal parts and season the pot.

Operating Instructions

Follow these steps to brew delicious espresso:

  1. Fill the Lower Chamber: Unscrew the upper part from the lower heating vessel. Fill the lower chamber with cold water up to the level of the safety valve. Do not overfill.
  2. Add Coffee Grounds: Insert the funnel filter into the lower chamber. Fill the funnel with finely ground coffee. Do not tamp the coffee; level the grounds gently.
  3. Assemble the Pot: Screw the upper part of the moka pot firmly onto the lower chamber. Ensure a tight seal to prevent leaks.
  4. Place on Stovetop: Place the moka pot on a gas or electric ceramic stovetop. For gas stoves, ensure the flame is set to medium-low and does not extend beyond the base of the pot.
  5. Brew: Heat the water. As the water boils, pressure will force hot water through the coffee grounds and into the upper chamber. You will hear a gurgling sound as the coffee brews.
  6. Serve: Once the upper chamber is full of brewed coffee, remove the pot from the heat. Serve immediately.

This diagram visually explains how the moka pot brews coffee. Water in the lower chamber heats up, creating steam pressure that pushes hot water through the coffee grounds in the funnel, and the brewed coffee then rises into the upper collector.
