Safety Information

  • Always wear appropriate safety gear, including eye protection, when using tools.
  • Ensure the torque wrench is clean and free from grease or oil before use to maintain a secure grip.
  • Do not use the torque wrench as a breaker bar or for loosening fasteners. It is designed for tightening only.
  • Avoid dropping the torque wrench, as this can affect its calibration and accuracy.
  • Store the torque wrench in its protective case when not in use.
  • After each use, set the torque wrench to its lowest torque setting (2 Nm) before storing to relieve spring tension and maintain calibration accuracy.

Product Overview

The LEXIVON LX-191 features a robust design with a 72-tooth gear ratchet head made from Chrome Molybdenum alloy steel, ensuring durability and precise operation. Its dual-range scale allows for measurements in both Newton-meters (Nm) and Inch-pounds (In-Lb).

Key Components:

  • Ratchet Head: Reinforced, hardened, and heat-treated for longevity. Features a quick-release button for easy socket changes.
  • Torque Scale: Clearly marked dual-range scale for precise torque setting.
  • Adjusting Handle: Proprietary rotating handle designed to reduce effort and hand fatigue.
  • Locking Mechanism: Securely locks the set torque value.

Operating Instructions

1. Setting the Torque Value:

  1. Unlock the adjusting handle by pulling down the locking collar at the base of the handle.
  2. Rotate the handle to align the desired torque value on the main scale (Nm or In-Lb) with the zero mark on the micro-scale.
  3. Continue rotating the handle until the desired increment on the micro-scale aligns with the main scale line. For example, to set 10.2 Nm, align 10 Nm on the main scale, then rotate until 0.2 Nm on the micro-scale aligns.
  4. Release the locking collar to secure the set torque value. Ensure it snaps back into place.

2. Attaching Sockets/Bits:

  • Press the quick-release button on the ratchet head.
  • Insert the desired bit socket or adapter firmly onto the square drive.
  • Release the button to lock the socket in place. Pull gently to ensure it is secure.

3. Tightening Fasteners:

  1. Place the socket onto the fastener (bolt or nut).
  2. Apply smooth, steady pressure to the handle in the tightening direction (clockwise for most fasteners).
  3. Continue applying pressure until you feel and hear a distinct "click" sound. This indicates that the preset torque has been reached.
  4. Immediately stop applying force once the click is heard. Do not continue to tighten or re-tighten the fastener after the click.
  5. Remove the torque wrench from the fastener.

Maintenance

  • Cleaning: Wipe the torque wrench clean with a dry, soft cloth after each use. Do not use solvents or harsh chemicals, as they may damage the finish or internal components.
  • Storage: Always return the torque wrench to its lowest torque setting (2 Nm) before storing it in its protective case. This relieves tension on the internal spring mechanism, preserving its accuracy over time.
  • Calibration: While the wrench is factory calibrated and comes with a certificate, professional recalibration is recommended periodically, especially with frequent use or if the tool has been dropped.

Troubleshooting

Issue: Cannot hear or feel the "click" when tightening.

Possible Causes & Solutions:

  • Low Torque Setting: At very low torque settings (e.g., 2-4 Nm), the click may be subtle. Ensure you are in a quiet environment and pay close attention. Practice on a non-critical fastener to familiarize yourself with the click at low settings.
  • Improper Grip/Angle: Ensure you are holding the wrench correctly and applying steady, smooth force. Jerky movements can interfere with the mechanism.
  • Tool Malfunction: If the issue persists across various torque settings and proper technique is used, the tool may require recalibration or repair. Refer to the warranty and support section.

Issue: Fastener feels loose or overtightened after using the wrench.

Possible Causes & Solutions:

  • Incorrect Torque Setting: Double-check that the torque wrench was set to the correct value for the specific fastener as recommended by the bicycle manufacturer.
  • Re-tightening After Click: Never continue to tighten or re-tighten a fastener after the initial "click." This will result in overtightening beyond the set value.
  • Damaged Fastener/Threads: Inspect the fastener and threads for damage. A torque wrench cannot compensate for stripped threads or damaged components.
  • Calibration Drift: Over time, or due to impact, the wrench's calibration may drift. Consider professional recalibration.
