Important Safety Information
Always follow basic safety precautions when using kitchen appliances to reduce the risk of fire, electric shock, and/or injury to persons.
- Do not overfill the kettle. Overfilling may cause boiling water to spill out, leading to scalding.
- Always ensure the lid is securely closed before heating water.
- The kettle body will become hot during and after use. Use the bakelite handle only and avoid touching hot surfaces.
- Keep the kettle out of reach of children and pets.
- Do not place the kettle on or near a hot gas or electric burner, or in a heated oven.
- Do not immerse the kettle in water or other liquids for cleaning. Refer to the "Maintenance and Care" section.
- Use the kettle only for heating water. Do not heat other liquids or food items.
- Inspect the kettle for any damage before each use. Do not use if damaged.
Setup
- Unpacking: Carefully remove the kettle from its packaging. Retain packaging for future storage or transport.
- Initial Cleaning: Before first use, wash the inside of the kettle with warm, soapy water. Rinse thoroughly with clean water. Dry the exterior with a soft cloth.
- First Boil (Optional): For optimal cleanliness, fill the kettle with fresh water to the maximum fill line, bring to a boil, then discard the water. Repeat this process once or twice.
Operating Instructions
- Filling the Kettle: Remove the lid and fill the kettle with fresh, cold water. Do not fill above the maximum fill line to prevent boiling water from overflowing.
- Securing the Lid: Place the lid back onto the kettle, ensuring it is seated firmly and securely.
- Heating Water: Place the kettle on a suitable heat source (gas, electric, ceramic, or induction cooktop). Use a burner size appropriate for the kettle's base to ensure efficient heating and prevent handle damage from excessive heat.
- Monitoring: Monitor the kettle as water heats. This kettle does not feature a whistle.
- Pouring: Once water reaches the desired temperature, carefully remove the kettle from the heat source using the bakelite handle. Hold the handle firmly and use the conical spout to pour water slowly and steadily into your cup or container. Be cautious of steam escaping from the spout and lid.

Maintenance and Care
Proper care will extend the life of your Sur La Table Stainless Steel Kettle.
- Cleaning: After each use, allow the kettle to cool completely. Wash the interior with warm, soapy water and a soft sponge. Rinse thoroughly. Wipe the exterior with a damp cloth and dry immediately to prevent water spots.
- Dishwasher Safety: This kettle is not dishwasher safe. Hand washing is required.
- Descaling: Over time, mineral deposits (limescale) may build up inside the kettle, especially in hard water areas. To descale:
- Fill the kettle with a solution of equal parts white vinegar and water.
- Bring the solution to a boil and let it stand for 30-60 minutes, or longer for heavy buildup.
- Empty the kettle and rinse thoroughly several times with fresh water to remove any vinegar odor.
- Alternatively, use a commercial descaling product designed for kettles, following the manufacturer's instructions.
- Storage: Store the kettle in a dry place when not in use.
