Figure 3: Operating Valves (5, 10, 15 PSI)
Initial Setup:
- Before first use, wash all parts of the pressure cooker/canner with warm, soapy water. Rinse thoroughly and dry.
- Ensure the pressure regulator stem on the lid is clear of any obstructions.
- Select the appropriate operating valve (5, 10, or 15 PSI) based on your recipe's pressure requirements and firmly place it onto the pressure regulator stem.
- Place one or both canning racks at the bottom of the pot as needed for your canning process.
Operating Instructions
Follow these steps for safe and effective operation of your pressure cooker/canner:
- Add the required amount of water and food to the pressure cooker pot. Ensure not to overfill.
- Place the lid onto the pot, aligning it correctly. Engage the secure locking mechanism by rotating the handles until they click into place. This ensures a tight seal, keeping heat, moisture, flavor, and vital nutrients contained.
- Place the pressure cooker on a compatible stovetop surface. This unit is compatible with most cooking surfaces, including glass stovetops.
- Heat the pressure cooker on high heat until steam begins to escape steadily from the vent pipe.
- Once steam is steadily escaping, place the selected operating valve onto the vent pipe. The valve will begin to jiggle or rock, indicating that the desired pressure has been reached.
- Reduce heat to maintain a steady, gentle rocking motion of the operating valve. Begin timing your cooking or canning process according to your recipe.
- After the cooking/canning time is complete, turn off the heat. Allow the pressure to drop naturally until the operating valve stops jiggling and no steam escapes when gently nudged. Do not attempt to open the lid until all pressure has been released.
- Once pressure is fully released, unlock the lid by reversing the locking mechanism and carefully remove it, tilting it away from you to allow any remaining steam to escape safely.

Maintenance and Care
Proper maintenance ensures the longevity and performance of your Mirro Pressure Cooker/Canner:
- Cleaning: The pressure cooker pot and lid are dishwasher safe. For best results, hand wash with warm, soapy water and a non-abrasive sponge. Rinse thoroughly and dry immediately to prevent water spots.
- Gasket Care: Regularly inspect the rubber gasket inside the lid for cracks, hardening, or damage. Replace if necessary to maintain a proper seal.
- Vent Pipe and Operating Valves: Ensure the vent pipe and operating valves are clear of food particles or debris before and after each use. Use a small brush or pipe cleaner if needed.
- Storage: Store the pressure cooker with the lid inverted on the pot to allow air circulation and prevent odors.

Troubleshooting
If you encounter issues with your pressure cooker/canner, consider the following common points:
- No Steam Escaping: Check if the lid is properly sealed and locked. Ensure there is sufficient liquid inside the pot. Verify the vent pipe is not clogged.
- Pressure Not Building: Confirm the operating valve is correctly seated on the vent pipe. Inspect the lid gasket for proper placement or damage.
- Excessive Steam Leakage: This may indicate a damaged or improperly seated gasket. Ensure the lid is securely locked.
