4. Operating Instructions
The NF-8601S offers various testing modes accessible via the main menu. Select the desired function using the directional buttons and 'OK'.
4.1. Wiremap Testing (RJ11, RJ45, BNC)
Wiremap testing verifies the continuity and correct wiring configuration of cables. The device supports RJ45, RJ11, and BNC cable types.
- From the main menu, select "Mapping".
- Choose the cable type (RJ45, RJ11, or BNC).
- Connect one end of the cable to the corresponding port on the main emitter unit and the other end to the remote wiremap adapter or receiver unit.
- Press "Start" to begin the test. The screen will display the wiring diagram, indicating open circuits, short circuits, or crossed pairs.

4.2. Cable Length Measurement (TDR)
The TDR function accurately measures cable length and identifies the distance to faults such as open circuits or short circuits.
- From the main menu, select "Length".
- Choose the cable type (e.g., Cat5e, Cat6).
- Connect one end of the cable to the main emitter unit. The other end should be open or connected to the remote unit depending on the test.
- Press "Start" to initiate the measurement. The screen will display the length for each pair and the distance to any detected faults.
4.3. PoE (Power over Ethernet) Testing
This function identifies the presence of PoE, detects voltage, and determines the PoE standard.
- From the main menu, select "PoE".
- Connect the network cable from the PoE source to the RJ45 PoE/PING test interface on the main unit.
- The device will automatically detect PoE presence, voltage, and pinout.
- Caution: Avoid connecting the main RJ45 port to a PoE source as this may damage the device. Always use the dedicated PoE/PING port for PoE testing.
4.4. PING Testing
PING testing assesses network performance, including packet loss, minimum/maximum/average round-trip times, and host reachability on IP networks.
- From the main menu, select "Ping".
- Enter the IP address or domain name of the target device.
- Press "Start" to send PING requests. The results will show success/failure, packet loss, and response times.
4.5. Cable Tracing (Scan) with AC Filter
The scan function helps locate target cables quickly, even in environments with AC noise. It is safe for use with both normal and PoE switches.
- From the main menu, select "Scan".
- Connect the cable to be traced to the main emitter unit.
- Use the receiver unit's probe to trace the cable. The receiver will emit an audible tone when near the target cable.
- The AC filter helps to minimize interference from live electrical wires, ensuring accurate tracing.
4.6. Hub Blink
This feature helps locate network ports by causing the port lights on a server, switch, hub, or router to blink.
- From the main menu, select "Port Flash".
- Connect the main unit to a port on the network device.
- The connected port's indicator light on the network device will blink, allowing for easy identification.
4.7. Data Export
Test results can be saved to the included micro SD card and exported to a PC for record-keeping and analysis.
- After completing a test, select the "Data Export" option if available for that test mode.
- The data will be saved to the micro SD card.
- Remove the micro SD card from the device and insert it into a PC to access the saved data.

This video provides visual guidance on connecting cables, navigating the menu, and interpreting test results for RJ11 and RJ45 wire mapping, as well as cable length measurements for open and short circuits.
5. Maintenance
- Cleaning: Use a soft, dry cloth to clean the device. Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents.
- Storage: Store the device in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures. When not in use for extended periods, ensure the battery is partially charged (around 50%) to prolong its lifespan.
- Battery Care: Recharge the battery regularly, even if the device is not frequently used, to maintain battery health. Avoid fully discharging the battery for prolonged periods.
6. Troubleshooting
- Device Not Powering On: Ensure the battery is charged. If the issue persists, try connecting to a different charging cable or power adapter.
- Inaccurate Length Measurement: Verify that the correct cable type (e.g., Cat5e, Cat6) is selected in the settings. Ensure proper connection and that the cable is not excessively coiled or damaged.
- Wiremap Errors: Double-check cable terminations and connectors. Ensure the remote unit is properly connected for end-to-end tests.
- No Tone During Tracing: Confirm the scan function is active and the cable is properly connected to the emitter. Adjust the sensitivity knob on the receiver. Ensure the AC filter is enabled if tracing near power lines.
- PoE Test Issues: Always use the dedicated PoE/PING port for PoE testing. Connecting to other ports with PoE active may damage the device.
- Port Flash Not Working: Ensure the network device is powered on and the cable is securely connected. Some network devices may have specific configurations that affect hub blink functionality.
