Setup

Powering the Device

The Renkforce RF-CP-170 can be powered in two ways:

  • USB Power: Connect the supplied USB cable to the device's USB port and to a computer's USB port or a USB power adapter (not included).
  • Battery Power: Open the battery compartment on the back of the device and insert 2 x AA batteries (not included), observing the correct polarity.

Connecting to a Computer for Digitizing

To digitize your cassettes, connect the device to your computer using the supplied USB cable. Your computer should recognize the device as a standard audio input device. No specific drivers are usually required.

You will need audio recording software on your computer to capture the audio. Popular options include Audacity (free, open-source) or other audio editing programs. Ensure your software is configured to record from the USB audio device (often labeled as "USB Audio CODEC" or similar).

Operating Instructions

Loading a Cassette

  1. Open the cassette compartment lid.
  2. Insert an audio cassette with the open side facing upwards and the tape facing the playback head.
  3. Close the cassette compartment lid firmly until it clicks.

Playing a Cassette (Portable Use)

  1. Connect the headphones to the 3.5mm headphone jack.
  2. Press the PLAY button.
  3. Adjust the volume using the volume control dial.
  4. Use the FAST FORWARD and REWIND buttons to navigate tracks.
  5. Press the STOP button to stop playback.

Digitizing Cassettes to PC (MP3/WAV Conversion)

  1. Ensure the device is powered (via USB or batteries) and connected to your computer via the USB cable.
  2. Load the cassette you wish to digitize into the device.
  3. Open your preferred audio recording software on your computer (e.g., Audacity).
  4. In your software's settings, select the Renkforce RF-CP-170 (or "USB Audio CODEC") as the audio input device.
  5. Start recording in your software.
  6. Press the PLAY button on the Renkforce RF-CP-170 to begin playing the cassette.
  7. Monitor the recording levels in your software to ensure optimal audio quality without clipping.
  8. Once the cassette side has finished playing, press the STOP button on the device and stop recording in your software.
  9. Save your recorded audio file in your desired format (MP3 or WAV).
  10. Repeat for the other side of the cassette if necessary.

Maintenance

  • Cleaning: Use a soft, dry cloth to clean the exterior of the device. Do not use liquid cleaners or solvents.
  • Tape Heads: Periodically clean the tape heads and pinch rollers with a cotton swab lightly dampened with isopropyl alcohol to ensure optimal sound quality and prevent tape damage.
  • Storage: When not in use, store the device in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight and dust. Remove batteries if storing for extended periods.

Troubleshooting

Problem Possible Cause Solution

No sound from headphones. Headphones not connected properly; volume too low; faulty headphones. Ensure headphones are fully plugged in; increase volume; test with different headphones.
