4. Setup and Installation
Follow these steps for safe and correct installation of your DIMAX 540 plus B mini dimmer:
- Disconnect Power: Before starting any electrical work, switch off the main power supply at the circuit breaker to avoid electric shock.
- Prepare Installation Location: The dimmer is designed for flush-mounted installation behind a standard push-button switch in a wall box. Ensure there is sufficient space (dimensions: 25.5 x 26.4 x 10.4 mm).
- Wiring Connections:
- Connect the Live (L) wire to the dimmer's input.
- Connect the Load wire (to the lamp) to the dimmer's output.

5. Operating Instructions
The DIMAX 540 plus B dimmer is controlled via a standard push-button switch:
- Switch On/Off: A short press (less than 0.4 seconds) of the push-button will switch the light on or off.
- Dimming: Press and hold the push-button to dim the light. The brightness will continuously increase or decrease. Release the button when the desired brightness is reached.
- 100% Brightness: A quick double-click (two short presses within 0.4 seconds) will set the light to 100% luminous intensity.
- Memory Function: The dimmer automatically saves the last set brightness level. When the light is switched on again, it will return to this stored brightness.
- Setting Minimum Brightness: To adjust the minimum brightness level (useful for preventing LED flickering at very low settings), press the push-button five times quickly. The light will then enter a programming mode where you can adjust the minimum level by pressing and holding. Once set, a short press will save the setting.

7. Troubleshooting
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| Light does not turn on/off or dim. | No power supply, incorrect wiring, faulty lamp, or faulty dimmer. | Check power supply at the circuit breaker. Verify wiring connections according to the installation instructions. Test with a known working lamp. If the problem persists, consult a qualified electrician. |
| LED lamps flicker at low brightness. | Incompatibility with specific LED lamps, minimum brightness set too low. | Adjust the minimum brightness setting (see Operating Instructions). Consider installing the optional Theben LED compensation module (item no. 9070825). Ensure your LED lamps are explicitly labeled as "dimmable." |
| Dimmer becomes warm during operation. | Normal operation, or overload. | A slight warmth is normal. Ensure the total wattage of connected lamps does not exceed 150W. If it feels excessively hot or emits smoke/smell, immediately disconnect power and consult an electrician. |
