Okuma Ceymar HD 2500 Spinning Reel User Manual
Model: CHD-2500A
Introduction
Thank you for choosing the Okuma Ceymar HD 2500 Spinning Reel. This manual provides detailed instructions for the proper setup, operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of your new fishing reel. Designed with power in mind, the Ceymar HD features High Density, Oversized Gearing (HDG-II), an aluminum screw-in handle, and a gear stabilization system for enhanced strength and cranking power. Its Flite Drive™ system reduces rotational resistance, ensuring a smooth and lightweight feel.

Setup Guide
1. Attaching the Reel to a Fishing Rod
- Loosen the reel seat nut on your fishing rod.
- Place the reel foot into the reel seat.
- Tighten the reel seat nut securely until the reel is firmly attached and does not wobble.
2. Spooling Fishing Line
- Open the bail arm.
- Tie the fishing line to the spool using an arbor knot or similar secure knot. Trim any excess tag end.
- Close the bail arm.
- Hold the line under slight tension and begin to reel the line onto the spool. Ensure the line lays evenly across the spool.
- Fill the spool to approximately 1/8 inch (3mm) from the lip of the spool. Overfilling can cause tangles.
3. Handle Assembly and Orientation
The Ceymar HD 2500 features a rigid machined aluminum screw-in handle design and is ambidextrous, allowing for left or right-hand retrieve.
- To change handle orientation, unscrew the handle from one side of the reel body.
- Insert the handle into the opposite side and screw it in firmly until secure.
Operating Instructions
1. Adjusting the Drag System
The multi-disc, oiled felt drag system controls the tension on the line when a fish pulls. Adjust the drag by turning the drag knob on the top of the spool.
- Turn clockwise to increase drag tension.
- Turn counter-clockwise to decrease drag tension.
- Set the drag to approximately 25-30% of your line's breaking strength. Test by pulling line directly from the spool.
2. Casting
- Hold the rod and reel comfortably.
- Press the line against the rod with your index finger.
- Open the bail arm.
- Swing the rod forward, releasing your finger from the line at the desired point to cast.
- As the lure or bait hits the water, manually close the bail arm or begin to turn the handle to engage the bail.
3. Retrieving
Turn the handle to retrieve the line. The precision machine cut brass pinion gear and frictionless main shaft design ensure smooth operation.
4. Quick-Set Anti-Reverse
The Quick-Set anti-reverse roller bearing prevents the rotor from moving backward, ensuring solid hook sets. This feature is always engaged for immediate anti-reverse.
5. Rotor Brake System
The rotor brake system prevents unintended rotation of the rotor while casting, improving casting accuracy and preventing line tangles.
Maintenance
Proper maintenance will extend the life and performance of your Okuma Ceymar HD 2500 reel.
1. After Each Use
- Wipe down the reel with a damp cloth to remove salt, dirt, and debris.
- For saltwater use, lightly rinse the reel with fresh water (do not submerge) and allow it to air dry completely.
- Loosen the drag knob completely to relieve pressure on the drag washers during storage.
2. Lubrication
- Periodically apply a small amount of reel oil to moving parts such as the handle shaft, bail arm pivot points, and line roller.
- Apply a thin layer of reel grease to the main gear and pinion gear if disassembling for deeper cleaning (recommended annually or by a professional).
- Do not over-lubricate. Excess lubricant can attract dirt and hinder performance.
3. Storage
- Store the reel in a dry, cool place away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures.
- Consider using a reel cover or bag to protect it from dust and scratches.
Troubleshooting
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| Line twists or tangles | Overfilling spool, improper spooling, worn line roller, line memory. | Reduce line on spool, re-spool correctly, check line roller for smooth rotation, replace old line. |
| Drag slipping or inconsistent | Drag washers are dry, dirty, or worn; drag knob not tightened sufficiently. | Clean and re-grease drag washers (use specialized drag grease), replace worn washers, tighten drag knob. |
| Handle stiff or grinding | Lack of lubrication, dirt/debris in gears, damaged bearings. | Clean and lubricate gears and bearings. If problem persists, professional service may be required. |
| Bail arm not closing properly | Debris in bail mechanism, bent bail wire, spring issue. | Clean bail mechanism, gently straighten bent bail wire if possible, contact support for spring replacement. |
