4. Setup

Before connecting the charger, ensure the battery terminals are clean and free of corrosion. Always follow the correct connection sequence.

  1. Prepare the Battery: If the battery is in a vehicle, ensure the vehicle's ignition is off and all accessories are disconnected. For marine batteries, ensure the boat is safely docked or on land.
  2. Connect Positive Clip: Connect the RED (+) positive alligator clip from the charger to the positive (+) terminal of the battery.
  3. Connect Negative Clip: Connect the BLACK (-) negative alligator clip from the charger to the negative (-) terminal of the battery. If connecting to a vehicle battery, connect the negative clip to a metal part of the vehicle chassis away from the battery and fuel line, if the battery is not removed from the vehicle.
  4. Plug in Charger: Once the clips are securely connected to the battery, plug the charger's AC power cord into a suitable electrical outlet. The standby indicator light should illuminate.
  5. Select Mode: The charger will automatically detect the battery voltage (6V or 12V). Use the "MODE" button to select the appropriate battery type (Standard, AGM, or Lithium) for optimal charging.

To disconnect, reverse the order: unplug the charger from the AC outlet first, then disconnect the negative clip, followed by the positive clip.

5. Operating Instructions

The BYGD Smart Car Battery Charger operates automatically once connected and the correct mode is selected. It employs intelligent segmented charging for efficient and safe battery restoration.

5.1 Charging Process

Diagram illustrating three-stage charging for lithium batteries and eight-stage charging for other battery types

Figure 5.1: Charts detailing the intelligent segmented charging process. The top chart shows a three-stage charging cycle for lithium batteries (Fast charge, Float voltage), while the bottom chart illustrates an eight-stage charging process for other battery types (Pulse, Soft start, Constant current, Constant voltage, Analysis, Repair, Floating charge, Maintain).

The charger utilizes different charging algorithms based on the battery type:

  • Three-Stage Charging (Lithium Battery):
    1. Stage 1: Constant Current Charging (Fast Charge)
    2. Stage 2: Constant Voltage Charging (Float Voltage)
    3. Stage 3: Floating Charge
  • Eight-Stage Charging (Standard/AGM Batteries):
    1. Stage 1: Pulse Charging
    2. Stage 2: Soft Start
    3. Stage 3: Constant Current Charging
    4. Stage 4: Constant Voltage Charging
    5. Stage 5: Charging Analysis
    6. Stage 6: Supplementary Charging (Repair)
    7. Stage 7: Floating Charge
    8. Stage 8: Maintenance of Charging

The charger automatically detects the battery's state and applies the appropriate charging stage to optimize performance and extend battery life.
