How to Play
The objective of Solitaire Chess is to capture pieces with every move until only one piece remains on the board.
- Movement Rules: Move the chess pieces according to standard chess movement rules.
- Capture Requirement: In every move, one piece MUST capture another piece. If at any point you are left with two or more tokens and no more possible captures, reset the challenge and try again.
- Winning Condition: Continue making capturing moves until only one piece remains on the board. When this occurs, you win the challenge!
Chess Piece Movement Overview
- King: Moves one square in any direction (horizontal, vertical, or diagonal).
- Queen: Moves any number of empty squares in any direction (horizontal, vertical, or diagonal).
- Rook: Moves any number of empty squares horizontally or vertically.
- Bishop: Moves any number of empty squares diagonally. Bishops cannot "bounce" against the edges of the board and change direction.
- Knight: Moves in an "L" shape (or inverted "L") with two steps in one direction, a 90° turn, and one step in the new direction. Knights are the only pieces that can jump over other pieces. They capture only the piece that occupies the final square of their move.
- Pawn: Moves one square forward. Captures diagonally one square forward.

The game features magnetic pieces that securely attach to the board, preventing loss during play or travel.

Step 2: Move a piece to capture an opponent's piece. Each move must result in a capture.

Step 3: Continue capturing until only one piece remains on the board to win the challenge.
Maintenance
To ensure the longevity of your Solitaire Chess game, keep the magnetic pieces and board clean and free from dust. Store the game in its original packaging or a suitable container to prevent loss of pieces and protect the magnetic surfaces. Avoid exposing the game to extreme temperatures or moisture.
Troubleshooting
- Cannot find a valid move: If you are stuck and cannot make a legal capturing move, double-check the setup of your pieces against the challenge diagram. Refer to the solution section in the instruction manual if needed.
- Pieces not sticking: Ensure the magnetic pieces and board are clean. If magnetism seems weak, contact customer support.
