2. Safety Information

Operating a generator can be hazardous. Always follow these safety precautions to reduce the risk of fire, electric shock, serious injury, or death.

  • Carbon Monoxide Hazard: Generators produce carbon monoxide, an odorless, colorless, poisonous gas. Operate the generator ONLY outdoors and far away from windows, doors, and vents. Never operate indoors, in a garage, or in any enclosed space.
  • Electrical Shock Hazard: Never operate the generator in wet conditions. Ensure all electrical connections are secure and dry. Do not touch the generator with wet hands.
  • Fire Hazard: Diesel fuel is flammable. Refuel in a well-ventilated area with the engine off and cool. Do not smoke or allow open flames near the generator. Store fuel in approved containers.
  • Hot Surfaces: The generator engine and muffler become very hot during operation and remain hot for some time after shutdown. Avoid touching hot surfaces to prevent burns.
  • Outdoor Use Only: This generator is designed for outdoor use only.
  • Breaker Position: Always ensure the circuit breaker is turned OFF when starting or stopping the generator set to prevent damage to connected appliances and the generator.

4. Setup

Before starting the generator, perform the following setup steps:

  1. Placement: Position the generator on a firm, level surface outdoors, away from any combustible materials, and in a well-ventilated area. Ensure adequate clearance around the generator for cooling and exhaust.
  2. Add Engine Oil: Remove the oil filler cap/dipstick and add the recommended diesel engine oil (refer to specifications for type and capacity). Do not overfill.
  3. Add Diesel Fuel: Ensure the fuel tank is clean. Carefully pour fresh, clean diesel fuel into the fuel tank. Do not overfill. Leave some space for expansion. Securely close the fuel cap.
  4. Check Air Filter: Ensure the air filter is clean and properly installed.
  5. Electrical Connections: Ensure all circuit breakers on the control panel are in the "OFF" position before starting.

5. Operating Instructions

5.1. Starting the Generator (Self-Recoil)

Follow these steps to start your G-POWER SCD4500 generator:

  1. Ensure the generator is on a level surface and all safety checks from Section 2 and 4 are complete.
  2. Turn the engine switch to the "ON" position.
  3. If equipped, move the choke lever to the "CHOKE" position (for cold starts).
  4. Pull the recoil starter handle slowly until resistance is felt, then pull it quickly and firmly. Repeat if necessary until the engine starts.
  5. Once the engine starts, slowly move the choke lever back to the "RUN" position.
  6. Allow the engine to warm up for a few minutes before connecting any electrical loads.
  7. Once warmed up, switch the AC circuit breaker to the "ON" position.
  8. You can now connect your electrical appliances to the AC outlets.

5.2. Stopping the Generator

To safely stop the generator:

  1. Disconnect all electrical loads from the AC outlets.
  2. Switch the AC circuit breaker to the "OFF" position.
  3. Allow the generator to run for a few minutes without load to cool down.
  4. Turn the engine switch to the "OFF" position.

6. Maintenance

Regular maintenance is crucial for the longevity and optimal performance of your generator. Always turn off the generator and allow it to cool before performing any maintenance.

  • Engine Oil Check/Change: Check oil level before each use. Change engine oil after the first 20 hours of operation, then every 100 hours or every 6 months, whichever comes first.
  • Air Filter Cleaning/Replacement: Inspect the air filter regularly. Clean or replace it as needed, especially in dusty conditions.
  • Fuel Filter Inspection: Inspect the fuel filter for clogs or damage. Replace if necessary.
  • General Inspection: Periodically check for loose fasteners, fuel leaks, or damaged components. Address any issues promptly.
