3. Setup

  1. Unpacking: Carefully remove all packaging materials and ensure all parts are present: main unit, water tank, filter holder, glass carafe, and measuring spoon.
  2. Initial Cleaning: Before first use, wash the glass carafe, filter holder, and water tank lid in warm, soapy water. Rinse thoroughly and dry.
  3. Positioning: Place the coffee maker on a flat, stable, heat-resistant surface near a power outlet. Ensure there is enough space around the unit for proper ventilation.
  4. First Use (Cleaning Cycle): Fill the water tank with fresh, cold water up to the MAX level. Place the empty glass carafe on the heating plate. Press the power button to run a full brewing cycle without coffee. Discard the water. Repeat this process 2-3 times to clean the internal components.

4. Operating Instructions

Follow these steps to brew a perfect cup of coffee:

  1. Fill Water Tank: Open the lid of the water tank and fill it with fresh, cold water. The tank has clear markings for desired cups (e.g., 1L capacity). Do not exceed the MAX fill line.
  2. Insert Filter: Place a paper filter (size 4 recommended) into the filter holder.
  3. Add Coffee Grounds: Add your desired amount of ground coffee into the paper filter. A general guideline is 60 grams of coffee per liter of water, but adjust to your taste.
  4. Position Carafe: Place the glass carafe with its lid securely on the heating plate, ensuring it is correctly aligned to activate the drip-stop mechanism.
  5. Adjust Flow Control (if applicable): The Wilfa Classic features an adjustable flow control on the filter holder. Rotate the dial to adjust the extraction time based on your coffee grind and desired strength. For finer grinds, a slower flow might be preferred.
  6. Start Brewing: Plug the coffee maker into a power outlet. Press the power button. The indicator light will illuminate, and the brewing process will begin.
  7. Serving: Once the brewing cycle is complete, the coffee maker will automatically switch to keep-warm mode. The heating plate will keep the coffee warm for approximately 40 minutes before automatically shutting off.

5. Maintenance and Cleaning

Regular cleaning and maintenance will ensure the longevity and optimal performance of your coffee machine.

  • Daily Cleaning: After each use, unplug the appliance. Remove the filter holder and glass carafe. Wash them in warm, soapy water or place them in the dishwasher (if dishwasher-safe, refer to product manual for specific parts). Wipe the exterior of the coffee maker with a damp cloth.
  • Descaling: Mineral deposits from water can build up over time, affecting performance and taste. Descale your coffee maker every 1-3 months, depending on water hardness and frequency of use.
  • Descaling Procedure:
    1. Mix a descaling solution according to the manufacturer's instructions (e.g., white vinegar and water, or a commercial descaler).
    2. Pour the solution into the water tank.
    3. Place the empty carafe on the heating plate.
    4. Run a brewing cycle. If using vinegar, you may want to pause the cycle halfway through and let it sit for 15-30 minutes before resuming.
    5. After the cycle, discard the solution.
    6. Rinse the coffee maker by running 2-3 full cycles with fresh, cold water to remove any residual descaling solution.
  • Do not use abrasive cleaners or scouring pads on any part of the coffee maker.
