4. Setup and Installation
Follow these general steps for replacing your water filter cartridge. Always refer to your specific filtration system's manual for detailed instructions.
- Turn Off Water Supply: Locate the main water shut-off valve for your home or the valve leading to your filtration system and turn it off.
- Relieve Pressure: Open a nearby faucet to relieve any remaining water pressure in the system.
- Remove Old Cartridge: Use a filter wrench (if necessary) to unscrew the filter housing. Carefully remove the old filter cartridge.
- Clean Housing: Clean the inside of the filter housing with warm, soapy water. Rinse thoroughly. Inspect the O-ring for any damage and replace if needed. Lubricate the O-ring with a silicone-based lubricant.
- Insert New Cartridge: Unwrap the new Filters Fast PHWF-117 cartridge and insert it into the filter housing. Ensure it is seated correctly.
- Reassemble Housing: Screw the filter housing back onto the system. Hand-tighten only; do not overtighten.
- Restore Water Supply: Slowly turn on the main water supply. Check for leaks.
- Flush System: Open a cold water faucet and let the water run for several minutes (e.g., 5-10 minutes) to flush out any air and carbon fines. The water may appear cloudy initially; this is normal.

7. Troubleshooting
If you experience issues with your water filtration system after installing the new cartridge, consider the following:
- Low Water Pressure: Ensure the water supply valve is fully open. Check if the filter cartridge is installed correctly and not clogged. If the filter is old, it may be time for a replacement.
- Cloudy Water: This is common immediately after installation due to trapped air and carbon fines. Flush the system for several minutes until the water runs clear.
- Leaks: Check that the filter housing is securely hand-tightened and that the O-ring is properly seated and not damaged.
- Unusual Taste/Odor: Ensure the system has been adequately flushed. If the taste/odor persists, the filter may be exhausted and require replacement.
